“MN presents...” is delighted to host Mike Huckaby for a house set on the second leg of what promises to be a special weekend. Huckaby, drawing influences from musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Sun Ra and George Clinton as well as his contemporaries, fuses together elements of funk, depth and soul into his house sets.
His earliest releases out on Harmonie Park, were pressed up after Huckaby forged a friendship with Rick Wade, when they worked together in the influential Detroit record store, Record Time. These releases, two volumes entitled Deep Transportation, became compulsory for the record bag of any connoisseur of deep house. His time serving in the record store is still evident in his sets today, where he has an unparalleled ability to craft knowledgeable and intelligent set which take his audience on a journey through some of the finest house music. His sets maintain a raw energy and sense of funk, appreciation for past classics, and also what’s fresh today. Huckaby also earns respect as an acclaimed remixer working with many artists including Juan Atkins & Deepchord. Huckaby has also garnered respect in Detroit by sharing his production knowledge through schools and workshops he set up at Youthville.
Taking place in the plush surroundings of the Ormond Wine Bar, this new club space is the perfect venue to host a name like Mike Huckaby. We will be kiting out the area with a Funktion one for the night and will do our best to make sure this is a party to remember, that will go long into the early hours. Tickets on the door will be €10 before midnight and €12 after. You can also avail of our very special €15 ticket deal if you’ll be attending the Sun Ra party on the Friday night.
