  • A lot has happened since the CO-OPerative last hosted a party they could call their own. We’ve seen Australia and the world at large ravaged by natural disaster, tainted by war and social unrest, and terrified by the unadulterated horror of Justin Bieber (who could also qualify as a natural disaster to some extent). Its been almost a full 12 months since our first birthday warehouse throwdown, and while we’re no doubt older, grumpier and less mobile than ever a year on, we’d like to think that we haven’t quite forgotten what it was we were doing (or trying to) that made a few misguided fools pay attention. So, here we are again, gluttons for punishment, trying to push underground talent sourced from tropical idylls (such as Germany) onto by now not so unsuspecting Sydney dancers. Broadening minds? Probably not. Moving feet? Quite possibly. Keeping at least our own ears happy? No doubt. Don’t call it a comeback, we’ve still been lurking the in shadows, playing music, tripping over monitors and grumbling about our set times, just with less responsibility. But we’ve got an itch that needs scratching, a case of deep House herpes if you will. Consequently, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to ship one of our favourite producers of the last couple of years out here for the first time ever, all the way from that electronic backwater Berlin. Take a bow Iron Curtis, AKA Mr Johannes Paluka, the CO-OP floor is yours to do with as you please. Fortunately for the assembled such an open invitation will mean a full 4 hours of Detroit, Chicago and European influenced House, interplanetary Disco and organic Techno sounds, freshly dredged from the depths of here, there and fuck knows where. The man’s got form, having released on Tensnake’s Mirau label, Mule Electronic and Dirt Crew to name but a few, and possesses a sound that is distinctly his – branding it the lovechild of classic analogue and fresh electronic deep dance music might shed some light for the unenlightened. Oh, and some dude called Vincenzo has just been added to the lineup - you may remember him. Details? We expected you’d never ask. Saturday 4th June is the date for us to get reacquainted – you wear something tight and we’ll bring the Funktion-One and the extended set from our headliner, as well as what can only be described as a venue with house-party vibes written all over it. Intrigued? Do be, its well alright (see in the city, easy to get to and probably not the same place you went to last weekend). We could tell you where it is, but you might do something silly with such sensitive information in your excitement, so we’ve decided to keep it on lock down until nearer the time. You understand, right? The CO-OP residents will be in at least partial effect to set the mood, playing promos they shouldn’t have and records they should have listened to before buying. Some cheap (as in under $6 a pint) drinks will surely help circumvent any awkward silences in the conversation so we’ve made that particular wet dream a reality because maybe, just maybe, we also fancy our chances with you after a few. We’ll pick you up around 9pm and drop you home late (not before 4am if you need to turn off your Sunday morning alarm), assuming we don’t miss your place while groping in the back of the cab. You know us, it could happen. Advance tickets for CO-OP’s House of House with Iron Curtis on Saturday 4th June will be on sale from Monday 25th April via Resident Advisor or direct from CO-OP HQ, if you know where that might be. Welcome along… CO-OP IRON CURTIS (MIRAU/MULE – BERLIN) Iron Curtis’ pieces originate in a place simultaneously tuned to the sounds of Detroit, Chicago and Hamburg. In his hometown of Nuremberg, Johannes Paluka is more familiarly known under his surname, which he goes by at the turntable. Intertwining deep House with soulful Techno and intergalactic Disco in a disturbingly enchanting manner, his sound moves in the equilibrium of reduced, but never minimal. Flashes of kitsch brighten the dark universe of Iron Curtis, but fail to interfere with the fact that he makes and breaks profound music for the dance-floor. Johannes currently resides in the electronic music stronghold of Berlin and releases on Tensnake’s Mirau label, Mule Electronic, Dirt Crew and Galaktika, among others. After wrapping up tours of the US, including stops in Chicago and Detroit, and of course Australia, Iron Curtis will play shows in the UK, Italy and Russia in the next few months as he keeps the fire burning throughout 2011. VINCENZO (DESSOUS/POKERFLAT - BERLIN) One of CO-OP's favourite guests, who tore The Civic to absolute shreads back in 2009, returns to claims his place in the history of the CO-OPerative by being the first DJ to appear twice at one of our events (just beating Harri as it turns out, although we don't want anyone to think its becoming a habit). Not only is he one of the best in the busines of deep Disco and deeper House DJing, he's an A-grade producer and remixer with releases spanning over 10 years on prominent labels including Steve Bug's Dessous and Pokerflat, !K7 and Liebe*Detail. He also runs the Teardrop imprint with Lovebirds from his current home in Berlin. Vincenzo is about to release his third artist album (for Dessous), following the near-classic '1-800 Vincenzo' and 'Welcome To Zanarkland', and is currently touring to support the new record - lucky for us.
