On 16 June at Nitsa Club we will be celebrating the joint launch of Robert Hood’s new artist album ‘Omega: Alive’ and new EPM artist Lee J. Malcolm’s debut album ‘Folded Spaces’ - both released on 20 June. Following last year’s triumphant ‘Omega’ album that saw Robert Hood envisage the 1971 film ‘The Omega Man’ as a techno science fiction opus he now translates the suspense and tension of Charlton Heston’s last man on earth battle for survival into the frenetic energy of his own new live show. In 2011, Omega comes Alive. On ‘Omega: Alive’ Hood takes the raw elements of the originals and builds them into a tense and pulsating live show that propels ‘Omega’ into a new light. Opening with new track ‘Bells At Dusk’ Hood builds over a sparse drum pattern before a scatter shot piano riff announces the unmistakable kick sound of the minimal master. ‘Run’ keeps up with soft pads and then Hood drops one of the albums key tracks with the staccato-strobe flash of ‘Alpha: Alive’ as he works the original into a mesmerizing and melodic, string inflected monster. Robert will be playing a special album party DJ set, featuring many new and as yet unreleased compositions. The next production tag team need little introduction as Keith Tenniswood (aka Radioactive Man and one half of Two Lone Swordsmen) has been privy to some of the most twisted machine funk to emanate from the UK in the last decade and his production partner Billy Nasty has taken techno to the world via his DJ sets and Tortured label. Together as they showcase their new RadioNasty sound, the duo play a special back2back DJ set that builds upon their ‘Radio 3’ exclusive track for EPM’s 10th birthday compilation. Leeds based Lee J Malcolm was quite the child musician, playing the drums at age five, piano at seven, guitar at ten and recording his own music by fourteen. Almost all self-taught, he soon discovered the joys of electronic equipment and has been obsessed ever since. Having mastered various other instruments and been in bands ranging from jazz to rock, punk to metal, and latin to folk he not only writes and performs with experimental rock band, Vessels (on Cuckundoo Records) but has also been experimenting with electronic music for many years. During Sonar he will be playing a special live show with interactive visuals provided by DanceRoom Spectroscopy. All DJs and acts will be playing exclusively at this party during Sonar. Robert Hood’s ‘Omega: Alive’ (M-Plant) and Lee J. Malcolm’s ‘Folded Spaces’ (EPM) are both released 20 June.
