Kaluki - Ellesse, Nick Curly, Christian Burkhardt Live, Richie Ahmed, Treehouse

  • Kaluki just gets better and better. We think the line up speaks for itself with this eighth party of 5TH anniverasry parties. First up is a DJ who tore the roof off Sankeys last time we had him over at Kaluki. Mr Nick Curly. Success did not come overnight for Nick and, instead, was the result of his younger years spent cutting his teeth as a DJ in the clubs of Frankfurt and its satellite cities, developing his musical ear and then unleashing his own talents on the world. In the process, he became one of the most talked aboutnew acts in house music, whether it was for his killer productions, captivating DJ sets or the fact that he ran not one, but two, of the hottest underground labels – Cecille and 8 Bit. The latter half of 2010 saw Nick takes his career to a next level through two unconnected Ibicencan events, firstly with his DJ mix for Cocoon’s iconic ‘Party Animals’ Ibiza summer compilation (alongside Marco Carola) and secondly when he was installed as the resident DJ at Space Ibiza’s new underground ‘Kehakuma’ party series. 16 summer dates in Ibiza included Space opening and closing and a packed out debut appearance for Cecille on the terrace at Amnesia with Cassy and Markus Fix. Fittingly, 2011 begins with the Nick Curly ‘Keep On’ tour, which opened in Sydney on New Year’s Day at the 8,000 strong Space Festival and, happily for him, culminates in his tome of Mannheim on April 1st at the massive TimeWarp Festival, which gives him the rare chance to play to his home crowd at one the biggest dates on the European calendar. Next to entertain the Kaluki crowd is Christian Burkhardt, born in Heidelberg, Germany, attracted initial attention in 2007, when his publications with Oslo Records and Raum…musik found their way into the record cases of international DJs. Though Christian had always been an insider of the club scene, he reached this stage of his career in a roundabout way. In 1998 he bought a digital work station and an Atari computer to produce club music, but he soon realized the limitations of his equipment. He subsequently bought a PC and used VST technologies exclusively. By and by he started buying analogous equipment to integrate into his setup. He was constantly looking for the perfect sound. At that time Christian worked on music and video productions for 'Man vs. Machine', which was broadcast as part of the night programme of the German TV channel “Hessischer Rundfunk” between 2003 and 2006. Meanwhile, in his Offenbach studio, he created club tracks: a trendy mixture of house and minimal aesthetics, powerful bass lines combined with percussive rhythms. One can still hear and feel where his early influences originate from: i.e., wave, hip hop and club music of the '90s. Burkhardt`s sounds cannot simply be reduced to a few catchwords. In spite of his clear groove patterns he manages to achieve a very subtle and complex rhythmic creation. However if you are waiting for 'hit' sounds, you will be disappointed. His live set is constantly evolving and consists of songs that are exclusively created for the respective medium. Even the titles that have already been published are not rendered in their original form, but rather integrated into the arrangement that consists of up to twenty songs. Two amazing DJ. Lets give you a third. Treehouse keep there parties going with the newest addition to the Hot Natured crew Richy Ahmed. His debut track ‘Suck It’ on Hot Waves is already causing a big stir across the underground house scene. Over the last year British house music has been through a renaissance with a whole new generation of DJs and producers like Robert James, Subb-an, Russ Yallop and Maya Jane Coles quickly making names for themselves. In the midst of this surge of homegrown talent is Richy Ahmed, Hot Natured resident and part of the Hot Creations inner circle. Richy has spent the last two summers cutting his teeth at some world’s best parties including, Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival, Sonar in Barcelona, The Nexus at Burning Man in the middle of the Nevada desert, Glastonbury Festival's 40th Anniversary, Kubicle’s legendary toilet parties in London and We Love at Space in Ibiza.
