Warm with Junior Boys - DJ set, Alex Barck & Tornado Wallace

  • On Friday July 29th we return to Plastic People for our penultimate party of 2011 at the venue. For this special party we welcome Junior Boys for a very rare DJ set as well as Alex Barck (Prommer & Barck/Jazzanova) and Tornado Wallace. With three albums to date and their latest LP only being out only a week or so ago and a North American tour just wrapped up, we’re very excited welcome back Junior Boys to London for a special DJ set. Musically, they marry everything from post punk, disco, techno, R’n’B and electronica with soul, dubstep, house, splintered pop and traces of world music into one cohesive whole. The result is nothing short of extraordinary. Thematically it’s provocative, angry and ultimately conciliatory, but musically this fractious undercurrent plays itself out in a hive of weird and effervescent electronic pop. They are at once warm and inviting, yet ice cool; clever but instantly accessible; mercurial and utterly fascinating. Joining Junior Boys will be Alex Barck. As one of the founding members of Jazzanova and one half of Prommer and Barck, Alex’s views on music is that variety is the key to happiness. Mixing tomorrow's sounds of soul and jazz, with lashings of techno, house, Brazilian, and afrobeat influences, Alex has been bringing us the new for over a decade. It was his contributions of Jazzanova’s 'Fedime's Flight' that first brought attention to UK tastemakers like Gilles Peterson and Benji B. Finally we welcome a very good friend of the Warm family - Tornado Wallace. The elusive and enigmatic DJ/producer is discreetly taking on the world with his hybrid of house, techno and deep groove with the slinky disco playa responsible for three standout releases in 2010, all supported by contemporaries such as Jimpster, Mr Scruff, The Revenge, Eric Duncan, Horse Meat Disco, Greg Wilson, Matthew Dear, Mark E, and more. First was the Tornado Never Dies EP on Sleazy Beats followed by the triumphant Paddlin' EP on Jimpster's Delusions Of Grandeur which topped Juno's charts for a number of weeks and was listed in their top 50 tracks for 2010. His love affair with Delusions of Grandeur continued with ‘Always Twirling’, which reached similar heights, resonating with music lovers from all corners of the globe. Tornado has also lent his creative spin to other artist’s with remixes for Eddie C, Alex Agore, Loin Brothers and Nile Delta. Limited £8 advance tickets are now available at Resident Advisor here: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?266904
