• Having welcomed England’s new Smoking Ban with a tongue-in-cheek tribute night at last month’s event, Together rides again at Turnmills on Saturday 28th July, with the type of classic mixed-bag line-up that’s brought us lots of new friends over the past 18 months. Riding shotgun in the main room is monsieur David Guetta - the globe-trotting DJ and visionary behind the internationally acclaimed party F**k Me I’M Famous. Its 1 year to the day since the fabulous Frenchmen last jetted in to play at Together… and what a wonderful night that was, as David was joined by Josh Wink, Abe Duque, Justice, Headman, Busy P and The Presets (Live) amongst others for what has long been described as one of the most unforgettable Together’s yet. So, 1 year on; July 2007 lends itself to a line-up of similar epic proportions and the prospect of something equally as special. David is no stranger to Turnmills of course. It’s the club he made his UK debut at and it’s the London club where he finds himself most at home. Not due to appear in London anytime soon, this is a rare opportunity to hear the house hero rock out his own special brand of electro-tech. Supporting him will be fellow Frenchman Para One from the ultra-cool Institubes record label. We first had the pleasure of Para One’s aural company at February’s sell-out Modular Gets Together party, where not since Trentemoller’s live set a year previous had the intimate T2 room ever seen or heard anything quite like it!! Loud, relentless and brilliant for the brain, the ‘Para One’ experience gets upgraded to the main room this month to bring on the noise to a whole new level. Watch out!! Keeping the boys in check will be Together’s much loved residents Justin Robertson and Anil Chawla who keep the house, acid and the techno, funky. Over in T2, we welcome new concept DiscoTechNo! to the mix, as we extend our search across the waters to Europe to bring you some of the freshest underground producers right now. A recent trend seems to be that DJs ‘DJ’ and Producers ‘play live’, if that makes any kind of sense. If it does, then the knowledge that DiscoTechNo! will be showcasing 3 Live Sets on the night (2 of them – UK debuts) should be a very mouth-watering prospect indeed! First up is Germany’s Stephan Bodzin. Over in London to promote new album ‘Liebe Ist...’, Stephan has never before played Live in the UK - making his appearance something a bit exclusive and extra special. Stephan’s made a name for himself over the years through his production work on his own and with collaborations with the likes of Oliver Huntemann and Mark Romboy. Live artist number 2 is Austrian star Christopher Just. Christopher has been at the forefront of electronic dance music for over a decade now and remains to this day one of the most respected underground producers in the world. Next up is Markus Lange, a relatively new name on the scene, certainly in the UK. We’ve been monitoring his productions for some time now and are ecstatic that he’ll be making his UK debut at Together in the same company as Christopher and fellow countrymen Stephan Bodzin. His productions are already in the bags of heavyweights Sven Väth and Laurent Garnier and expect his profile to soar over the coming 12 months. This guy has to be seen to be believed. DJing between live acts will be Chicken Knickers resident Johnny Arthur and Together regular Dan van Damn – who’s now been nabbed by DJ Mag as one to watch. Nikolas Esselle also helps join the dots between house and techno. Over in T3, XFM’s John Kennedy presents The Midnight Ramble - his bi-monthly mash-up of live bands and DJs inspired by his legendary Xposure radio show. His ability to cherry pick artists on the ascendant to star status is incredible to say the least. The Horrors, Shit Disco, Kissy Sell Out, The Presets, Whomadewho, Man Like Me, Lethal Bizzle, South Central and Punks Jump Up are a few examples of his sublime ‘talent spotting’ and they’ve all gone onto bigger things having played for John long before they were better known. July’s ‘Ramble’ then, offers more of the same with exclusive live performances from The Teenagers and Shakes (making it 6 in total on the night!!). The Teenagers are one of the most hyped bands of the moment. Making it a hat-trick of French artists on this month’s bill, the trio are more Pulp, than Ed Banger and they’ve already taken the UK by storm with songs like ‘Homecoming’, ‘Scarlett Johansson’ and ‘F**k Nicole’ getting nearly 1 million plays between them on their Myspace. Shakes on the other hand come from the Isle of Wight and love to mix their electro with their rock. The duo are best known for Together anthem ‘Sister Self doubt’ and over the past 6 months their indie-disco antics have seen their army of fans swell to new highs. On a DJ tip, Klaxons return to the decks for the 3rd time this year at Together. Band member Jamie Reynolds has mixed it with the best of them already over the past 6 months and now he’s back, taking a breather from Klaxons’ extensive summer touring schedule to complete his own hat-trick!! Our mates at Modular Records are also back in the swing of things, as they return to the scene of the epic Together/Modular party in February (wonder if Beth Ditto from The Gossip will sing again??!!) for more rawkus noises behind the decks. Not to be outdone, John Kennedy also flexes his DJ muscle, when not introducing the bands and generally acting as host for the night!! What else? Well, the beloved Together All-Stars take a break from hosting the Topfloor room upstairs to let Buttoned Down Disco have a go!! The BDD crew will be in full affect with this debut outing at Together, with the hilariously named DJs - Tits of Death, Dollyrocker and They Came from the Stars, I saw Them rocking out the beats. London five piece XX Teens (formerly Xerox Teens) also put in a spot of DJ wizardry, resting their guitars for the night. For all you smokers out there, we know that life’s a bit of a drag at the moment (sorry!), but don’t forget we’ve created an outdoor space up in the Anexo Bar, where you can puff away to your hearts content.
