During the 2nd Berlin Music Week, TodaysArt hosts the opening night of the ICAS SUITE (a CTM initiative) at Monarch in Kreuzberg. We use this occasion to celebrate the initiation of TodaysArt.BE in Brussels. The Hague meets Brussels in Berlin!
ICAS SUITE
CTM (together with TodaysArt amongst other organisations) co-founded the network ICAS – International Cities of Advanced Sound. In total, 30 organisations and festivals on 5 continents joined forces to (co-)create projects and foster discourse, and thereby promote artistic development at the interface of music, art, technology and society. Following the small but splendid ICAS KITCHEN, which cooked up the goods during CTM.11 for several days in the Palomabar, CTM is preparing to cater for a wide array of tastes and foreign tongues during the second Berlin Music Week (7. – 10. September): in the four-day ICAS SUITE, ICAS-member festivals from Europe and North and South America will present a selection of their work and the most exciting artists in their networks at Festsaal Kreuzberg, Monarch, West-Germany, the Paloma and the new Blumenbar club.
The ICAS SUITE’s broad musical spectrum reflects ICAS members’ open-ended approach to issues of form encompassing the whole panorama of contemporary and experimental music presently holding out on the fringes of forced marketability. In an eclectic mix of club music, avant-Pop, experiment, listening, noise and improvisation, the ICAS SUITE club nights, concerts and performance gigs showcase established as well as up-and-coming artists from the member festivals’ home turf: a great deal of talent yet to discover.
Networking Tomorrow’s Art for an Unknown Future is the title of a five-year project initiative dedicated to exploring diverse aspects of the future of musical culture, its social role and repercussions, which was launched by the European strand in the network (ECAS – European Cities of Advanced Sound), with funding from the European Commission’s Culture Programme. What is the status quo, which tools are of use in independent cultural production, which measures can be taken to promote self-empowerment, what have we learned to date, what should we leave behind, and what must we take with us into the future? These are only a few of the questions that the initiative seeks to pose – and possibly answer – by commissioning artistic work, convening interdisciplinary symposia, organising network encounters and workshops, and underscoring the lot with the latest in experimental music.
The ICAS SUITE Ticket is available for visitors who want to enjoy the whole program, along with One-Day Passes or Single Event Tickets. Holders of a Berlin Music Week or Clubnacht Ticket have free entry to all ICAS SUITE events on Friday 9. and Saturday 10. September, venue capacity permitting.

After releasing music under the monikers A Made Up Sound and Dogdaze, Dave Huismans launched his best known moniker 2562 (his neighbourhood postcode in The Hague). His sound combines elements of Bristol, Croydon, Detroit and Berlin. In the late 00s Huismans established himself in the dubstep and techno worlds with a string of releases on Tectonic, 3024, SubSolo and Philpot. The debut 2562 album, Aerial (Tectonic, 2008), and the followup Unbalance (Tectonic, 2009) were released to rave reviews. His latest album Fever (inspired by his debut live set at TodaysArt 2010) was released on his own imprint When In Doubt in 2011.
PETER VAN HOESEN
When it comes down to combining the best of many musical worlds, Peter Van Hoesen can say he’s been doing it for a while now. Deeply rooted in the Brussels electronic music scene as DJ and producer since 1993, he’s considered by many as a man with multiple musical talents: from straight-up dancefloor techno, through the deeper strains of house, to advanced abstract electronica. In 2010 he moved to a digital setup and is now pushing the boundaries of what is possible within a DJ set. His skills have made him a resident DJ at The Labyrinth festival in Japan, and he has played at The Bunker, Berghain / Panorama Bar, Fabric and many other renowned venues. His music has been released on his own labels Time To Express, as well as through labels including Ostgut, Komisch, Lan Muzic, Curle, Meakusma and Morse. He’s active as a DJ, producer, sound designer and composer for contemporary dance and theatre.
CONFORCE
Dutch producer Conforce straddles early Detroit and Berlin dub techno; grainy, spacey beats with swathes of dark, atmospheric electronics. He's been tagged 'up-and-coming' since 2007-8 when his early releases on Rush Hour got support from DJs like Laurent Garnier and Derrick May and he played a slot at Resident Advisor's off-Sonar party alongside Martyn and Dan Bell. His output since has been very respectable with EPs on Delsin and the UK dub techno oriented label, Meanwhile, where his well received debut album, Machine Conspiracy, appeared in 2010. Preceding the release of his next full length album, Conforce has selected four tracks to release as the Dystopian Elements EP on Delsin, which will be released five days after his appearance at the ICAS SUITE.
