Well folks, we did it again...ANOTHER AMAZING U FUNKTION/VAGABOND PARTY IS UPON US...AND THIS AIN'T OUR FIRST RODEO...This hot weather has really made us lazy and cranky, so we hardly ever wanna go out anymore..Plus dere is jus' too many DIVAS in this town to deal with anyways. SO... we decided to throw the remote control batteries out the winder (HOW MUCH HSN CAN ONE ACTUALLY WATCH ANYWAYS) and mosey on down to the local library to use the INterWeb...you know, to check my email n' all. I came across one from LISTED BOOKINGS..as i read, I said to myself "MY GAWSH-what in tarNations! Could this really be? Could Onur Özer from Cocoon Recordings really want to visit our little piss ant town?" Yesireebob, it is correct. We nailed down this sumbitch. Ozer began his career in the late nineties when minimal and tech-house were making a resurgence in Istanbul.
In a city oppressed by both a stifling heat and a musical style equally as stagnant, Onur helped battle to change the old rules and break old habits, breathing fresh life into a dispirited club scene. Armed with his vinyl case, still dressed in his shabby student clothes, he entered the clubs to share his biggest passion, dancing without reason.
Onur continued to fight the cause and helped found a number of new, vanguard venues, bringing new sounds and styles to Turkey’s capital.
In 2002 he began to export this warm Istanbul sound to different cities in Germany. Since then he has kept the crowds dancing in such venues as Robert Johnson, Harry Klein, Studio 672 and Kerosin to name a few.
In 2003, he already held various residencies in Istanbul’s best clubs and traveled abroad to his first performances as a DJ. In 2005, he released his debut „Freakdisco EP“ on Freude Am Tanzen, followed by „Envy EP“ on Vakant, and he was soon awarded best newcomer of the year by the German music magazine Groove. His next two EP’s on Vakant, „Twighlight“ and „Red Cabaret“, found their way into the playlists of international trendsetters such as Sven Väth and Ricardo Villalobos. In the meantime, Onur also gained Europe-wide fame as a skilled DJ. Sven Väth had already taken notice of him and invited him to play at Green&Blue 2008 – not long after, he became part of Cocoon’s booking roster. Onur is currently living Berlin.
I (Sylvester Costanza) was lucky enough to catch Onur at Movement 2010 and at an afterparty that totally blew me away. Onur is by far one of the best DJ'S out in this big world and he is not afraid to take chances. His music will take you on a journey, but still keep your ass bouncing..A true DJ'S..DJ..Please venture out of your box to see this VERY SPECIAL RARE PERFORMANCE!
