Heidi presents The Jackathon - Maceo Plex, Lauhaus, Matt Tolfrey, Subb-An (Live)

  • New Years Eve!!! What is jack? Or who? " ... In the beginning was Jack and Jack had groove, and this groove was the groove of all grooves ... and house music was born ... " so approximately explains to us Heidi their Jackathon. What it really translated means should not be mentioned, since it would make us blush. The fact is, Jackathon is Heidi's playground with your favorites the night into day to make and vice versa. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: _____ Heidi Van Den Amstel Growing up in Windsor, Ontario Canada, just across the border from Detroit, Heidi had a childhood filled with the sounds of classic rock, blues and folk. It wasn’t long, though, before the sounds of the Motor City and Chicago led her to a deep and lifelong passion for underground dance music. A move to London in 2000 to immerse herself in the music scene led to a job working at the now defunct Koobla Records, and in 2003 Heidi was part of the team that opened up London’s foremost record shop, Phonica. Through her work there she gained invaluable experience of the scene and underground culture, and began helping put together sets for many of the country’s top DJs. This soon led her from vinyl fanatic to budding DJ, of which the wildly successful Get Physical label took note in 2004, making her a unique staple for the label in Berlin, where she currently resides. Throughout the last few years Heidi has played the world’s best clubs including Fabric, Panoramabar, Womb, Space Ibiza, with residencies at Watergate and Monza, having played on every continent except Antarctica in 2009 alone. The festival circuit has also welcomed her, showcasing her booty-shaking beats on the stages of DEMF, UltraFest, Bestival, Electric Zoo, Exit Festival, Balaton, and many more. In 2008, her impeccable tune selection combined with a charismatic and energetic personality landed her a monthly slot on the BBC’s ‘In New DJ’s We Trust’ on Radio 1, where she can interview her favorite artists, and generally exhibit her passion for music ranging from underground house and techno to disco. Looking ahead, Heidi will continue to conquer the dance music world, starting her own night called ‘Jackathon’ featuring the talents who have inspired and moved her, a series that she will tour globally in 2010. With her energy behind the decks and an infectious style of DJing, its hard to stand still when Heidi is in control… keep a close eye on this lady, and keep shaking your ass on her dancefloor. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ______ Maceo Plex Located deep within the circuitry of a mechanical alien host known as Maetrik you will find a complex web of synaptic dispersements resembling what could be called a soul. And this soul which drives it's host and manipulates it's every move is finally beginning to emerge. Its name is Maceo Plex. The emergence of such an entity has been the result of a need for feeling, a need for interplanetary funk. We as humans consider this need a feeling, a feeling rooted in emotion, and emotion being the very basis of humanity. Maceo Plex is on a quest to fullfil his need to inject feeling and funk into the world, and he's already proving to be quite productive. With deep and funky works of audible engineering for the label Crosstown Rebels in the form of a full length album titled "Life Index", a night with Maceo Plex will be one of galactic proportions. To explain the evolutionary process behind Maceo's existance we must travel back to 1993, to the beginning of his creativity. At the start...Maceo was intrigued by a pair of circular shaped objects designed for holding discs created from vinyl that produced vibrations resulting in sound and music. Soon he began conjuring up mixxes of techno, electro, and house music that quickly gained him popularity within the early 90s rave culture. But in 1997, while Heavily influenced by the sounds of other modern funk theorists such as Model 500, Kenny Larkin, Idjut Boyz, Convextion, etc... Maceo began experimenting with hardware modules containing knobs and keys to form his early musical compositions. Seduced by the sounds of techno & electro, Maceo grew into a technologically advanced being later to be known by various names such as Mariel Ito or Maetrik. After many years of prolific works on such labels as Treibstoff, Dumb Unit, Cocoon, Audiomatique, Modern Love, Mothership, to name a few...Maceo aka Maetrik travelled the world playing in some of the best clubs such as Rex, Cocoon, Fabric, Womb, etc... Now in 2010 Maceo has begun to strip back some of his robotic body armor known as Maetrik in order to expose a more musical and groove based side the world has not seen yet. The profound change has taken Maceo Plex from the complex and dark life in America to his current homebase of Valencia, Spain. The sunny and relaxed atmosphere has been quite useful to Maceo in his lengthy inward journey that is very apparent in his music. After a much needed retreat into the funky sounds of Parliament Funkadelic, Moodymann, Atjazz, Isolee, and Luomo, Maceo has finally completed his transormation and is shining brighter than the star Sirius....and his newest musical output reflects his radiation in a variety of beautiful colors. In late 2010, Maceo's single "Vibe Your Love" will finally be released on the very foward thinking label Crosstown Rebels and will include a hefty funk remix treatment by Zev of the Wolf & Lamb clang. Soon following will be the full length debut album aptly titled "Life Index" which chronicles Maceo's life long transformation into the soulful ball of energy he is today. Once experienced, the album will make it abundantly clear the level of versatility Maceo Plex posesses among his many auditory shells. And the world will understand Maceo's pristine vision of house music from beyond. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ______ Lauhaus Amsterdam-based DJ and producer, Lauhaus (Laurens Lanting), is one of the twosome inspirations of ’POLDER’, together with David Labeij. Active in the Dutch electronic music scene for over ten years now, he is also part of six-sided crazy communal laptop collective ’Amsterdam 611’ and most recently, the label manager of the brand new imprint ’SOWESO’ with Kabale Und Liebe. Simply: a very busy bee. It was 2004 that marked the emancipation of ’POLDER’. Their first release and debut album ’Poldermodel’ (Intacto Records 2008), received immediate acclaim and support resulting in international exposure and gigs worldwide. The solo Lauhaus act has also coined him as one of the important and respected players in the influential Amsterdam scene with releases on ’Remote Area’ and ’Intacto Records’. His sound is broad: productions made with a blend of house and techno, always striving for the clash between the genres to produce an exhilarating sound with an analogous feel. 2008 was the ground breaking year for Lauhaus with head turning productions. ’Casamance’ released on ’Remote Area/Area Remote’ is an ultimate housing Detroit tune. Jazzy chords, synths and rohdes solo’s all over the place with pounding groove and the hypnotic repetitive vocal hook. ”Downunder” on ’Intacto Records’ is a big time new school Techno rollers ace with big beats and big breaks. Lauhaus’s DJ style and sound is not to go unnoted. An all encompassing journey from deep, housy, tribal grooves to techy climaxes... always in tune with the crowd and the vibe! Never shy for some fun, Lauhaus’s strong collaborations with Boris Werner, Kabale und Liebe, Julien Chaptal, to name a few are yielding some musical knacks not to miss! :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ______ Subb-an Subb-an’s rapid rise to prominence as a DJ, producer and one of the most exiting new British live acts of recent years is testament to his hard work, natural talent and wholehearted commitment to electronic music. This success hasn’t been earned overnight. At just 23 years old, Ashique ‘Subb-an’ Subhan has done much more in his career in dance music than many artists twice his age. In 2005, Subb-an landed a residency at Below, one of the UK’s most cherished underground clubbing institutions. Over the last six years Below has seen the likes of Sven Vath, Loco Dice, Dinky, Jamie Jones and Sebo K headlining sold out parties that continue to draw crowds of clued-clubbers from all over the UK. / Subb-an’s discography reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of underground house and techno’s biggest labels with his forthcoming release on Crosstown Rebels, Spectral and Culprit backed up by past hits on Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations, Mothership, Leftroom, BPitch Control, 2020 Vision, Trapez Ltd. In 2009, Subb-an and Adam Shelton set up their own ‘One Records’ label as a platform for their own productions alongside tracks from other respected artists. Building on his long standing residency at Below, Subb-an has gone on to play at The Weekend Club (Berlin), 2010’s Glastonbury Festival, The Electric Pickle (Miami), The Harry Klein (Munich), Hot Natured at Sonar (Barcelona), The Garden Festival (Croatia), Lo*Kee (London), and at The Warehouse Project (Manchester). / With his upcoming releases on Crosstown Rebels, Spectral Sound and 2020 Vision due to land next spring, 2011 should be a defining year in Subb-an’s already hugely promising career. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ______ Sankeys
