  • Recently, I keep finding myself having conversations about TECHNO, it used to be a dirty word, now I can happily report, it is back, from all sides of the world, as well. The barrage of amazing DJs and live acts coming to our shores over the next silly season makes me smile... and to tell you the truth, makes me wonder if I am ever gonna get some work done, which is what techno people do, work. By-passing musical phases, through outputting that sound, classic, yet not made for concert halls! (Unless you are Jeff Mills) In one of those recent conversations, a friend said: “I believe techno is the classical music of our times”, I could not agree more. C2, Richie, Radioslave and Koze, to name a few, are some of the greatest composers, the Mozarts and Bachs of our era. The concert halls, the Berghain and Space Ibiza, just like Berliner Dom or La Scala were at the time. By now you wonder what the hell has he taken? Well, the point is that between all the greatest, there are always a handful of artist, who go about their work, supporting, delivering and teaching other up and coming greats, and that is, when we get to the subject of this press release. GLIMPSE, let me tell you a little about him, I am not going to copy and paste the release list this mild mannered Englishman has, it will take a couple of pages. The list of venues he has graced their stages would make you wonder, where you’ve been DANCING if you haven’t heard of him beforehand. The record labels, well, I think for nerds like us, we can only dream to get to that level, just have a look at the artwork and see the three teams he bats for. So why so serious? Not really, it is going to be a PARTY, we didn’t book him for an ambient show, neither at Hamer Hall. If you have any doubts, I would ask anyone that attended in October 2010 the last set of the night in the Flight Area (car park) at Space Ibiza’s Closing Fiesta. There is going to be a 909, Funktion One Sound and the local crew. Starting with CHRISTIAN VANCE. What can I say about him? The jokes that we have together are R-rated, you know, between two European guys, there is always going to be a different level of comfort when it comes to...anything. Musically, he is to melbourne what Kenny Larkin is to Detroit (and I am not just dropping names for the shake of it). Christian has been doing this for a long time, when it wasn’t that fashionable to be producing techno, let alone playing it live! I always wanted to have him playing in one of my parties, so I am pretty pumped! Now the summer holidays trio, if the next three guys play just along the lines of what they did in Europe this summer, we might not need an international! MIKE BUHL, this guy, recently we were listening to some of his old releases and the new ones, and he always had it! I thoroughly enjoy his live shows, but I miss him on the decks, so he’ll be delivering a “light” entertainment through out the night, and this time it will completely plugged! DEAN BENSON, my Rainbow wingman. Quietly he went to Europe and played in a fair few parties, not much fuss, just doing the work techno guys do. The reports say he will be back there, the Germans really liked it; we like him too! And to close this press release, ISAAC FRYAR. The hype machine has taken some time to get to that sweet spot, where you don’t need to do things you don’t really want to do, and you just start doing what you are good at. The reason why he is on, is no other than the fact that he can actually deliver the CONTENT, without compromises. These three guys, Barcelona, Berlin, festivals, label nights, this is another stop-over as a Frequent Flyer. A word of advice, try to get some sleep before you board, the in-flight entertainment might keep you awake. GLIMPSE at the Mercat Basement, Friday 7th of October; pencil me in!
