After weeks of preparation, the inaugural absentminds event is upon us. Friday September 30th will see the bass driven dream become a reality with Jacques Greene and xxxy headlining the Mint Club, Leeds.
From Montreal, Quebec, Jacques Greene is a slowly but surely emerging talent with releases on taste making labels like Night Slugs and LuckyMe. Little is known about the man himself, but his rich mélanges of 2-step skip, cut-up vocals, neon melodies and a bare love of r&b have got those-in-the-know all hot under the collar in recent months. Fusing said influences to house and dubstep beats, the young producer has played fabric, MUTEK and Plastic People in the not so distant past, so makes a welcome debut at the Mint Club.
Joining him will be xxxy aka UK talent Rupert Taylor. From saccharine vocal work to more aggressive drum lines via funky rhythms and cut-up sampling, the likes of Orca Records and Ten Thousand Yen have come calling for this man’s beguiling work so far. Journos at influential indie mag Pitchfork are fans, as are those who’ve seen the man perform at various clubs around the UK. xxxy, then, completes a brace of exciting city debuts.
From people with a peerless party know-how and an insatiable thirst for original beats, the opening absentminds is sure to kick off in style.
