Joining us for the third installment of our Autumn / Winter sessions at Plastic People will be Kristian Beyer AKA Âme, who will be treating us to a very special 6 hour DJ set.
The partnership of Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann, Âme has its origins in their hometown of Karlsruhe where they first met by way of Frank's record shop, Plattentasche. Bonding over a shared love of Chicago house, Detroit techo and much else besides, the due joined forces in 2003 and began producing seminal deep house platters for Sonar Kollektiv, many of which were collected onto their self-titled debut album. Keen to avoid repeating themselves - a notable characteristic of every Innervisions artist - they went on to forge a more nimble, compositional approach which resulted in the track that catapolted them into DJ bags and clubs around the world - 'Rej'. Subsequent offerings have included us the waltzing proto-techno of 'Fiori' (composed to accompany a ballet performed by Staatsballett Berlin in Berghain and released by Ostgut Ton), a collaboration with Derrick Carter on 'Where We're At', and the slow burning atmospherics of Rrose Sélavy, amongst others.
Âme's ability to fuse together seemingly disparate influences is greatly informed by their talents as DJs. Not given to fulfilling trends, their sets draw upon the whole of dance music's history and keep them in great demand around the world. Their regular nights at Robert Johnson (Frankfurt), Fabric (London), Trouw (Amsterdam), Lux (Lisbon), and Air (Tokyo) are exceeded only by their marathon sets during Innervisions nights at their beloved Panorama Bar (Berlin). They have also translated the Âme experience to mix CDs for Sonar Kollektiv, NRK Sound Division and Fabric, as well as their landmark survey of historical minimalism, The Grandfather Paradox, done in collaboration with Dixon and Henrik Schwarz. This year they released a period-spanning mix all of their own, Primary Structures.
