Izum is a night that is made up from two peoples love for house music. Both have been inspired for many years by the Chicago and Detroit music that invaded our shores in the late 80s and 90s which made UK clubbing and clubbing around the world what it is to day. This will be reflected in the music we play and the artists we book.
So with all that in mind for our first outing we have two producers that are flying up the house music ranks. They have been firm favourites of our's for some time now.
JAMES JOHNSTON
James Johnston‘s a name on many house DJ’s lips and fans alike and his ever increasing popularity has been truly remarkable from his humble beginnings in his small studio located in a cupboard of his flat in Glasgow.
After rekindling his love-affair with house music in 2009 James posted his first track ‘She’s Gone’, which featured a sample from the Bill Withers song ‘Aint No Sunshine’, on Soundcloud. This received such positive feedback that it eventually reached NO.1 in the Soundcloud 'most popular deep house tracks of all time' chart. Things like this don't go unnoticed and the track was signed by the Detroit label Kolour Recordings who released his first vinyl EP titled 'Honesty' on their sister label Undertones.
James’ Next EP 'Missed the party' was signed by the musically diverse Dutch label 4lux and his follow up vinyl EP for 4lux, 'Feeling Good In The Dark', sold out within 2 weeks. He has since gone on to supply tracks for vinyl releases on Berlin label Dikso, Leicester’s City Fly Records as well as remixes for Creative Swing Alliance, Duff Disco and Fromage, not to mention co-founding the ‘No Matter What’ label with fellow house producer du jour Alex Agore. No Matter What's smash debut release had house heads from around the globe taking notice and James' track for this release, ‘I Know It's Not Time’, was in the top 10 of the most charted tracks by other DJ’s on Resident Advisor for May 2011.
With vinyl EPs coming out soon on Fine Art Recordings, Boogie Originals, Under The Shade and No Matter What, not to mention various remixes, it looks like James' popularity will continue to increase!
CARLOS NILMMNS {LIVE}
Ross has been producing music for a long time, mainly on his first love vinyl, but more recently some digital as well. Of late Ross has found some time to work solo as Carlos Nilmmns with artists from around the world and features on a few cool labels which release the likes Johannes Volk, Alex Agore, Moodymann, Seth Troxler, Gerd, YouANDme, Terrence Parker, Marcellus Pittman, Santiago Salazar and many more. Ross also has forthcoming releases, remixes on 4lux, Lifeworld, Ornamrents, Groovement, Nice & Nasty, Science label and many more.
