This April Electric Deluxe Presents—EDXL’s forward thinking techno party—toasts four years on the circuit with a weekend string of events, concluding on home turf at Melkweg, Amsterdam on April 29th.
After blowing apart Lausanne and London it only make sense for EDP to return to where it all began, exactly four years ago to the date. Using the prestigious Amsterdam venue as its base, over the years Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe nights have matched cutting edge visuals to programs bristling with figureheads and protagonists across the spectrum of techno, and beyond; names like Richie Hawtin, Planetary Assault System and Chris Liebing to Mathew Jonson, Nathan Fake and Modeselektor. Closing the birthday weekender on an international tip EDP brings Glaswegian tour de force Hans Bouffmyhre together with Italian Giorgio Gigli and two of Berghain’s not-so-secret weapons Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock.
Hans Bouffmyhre—real name Stephen Gorrie—entered the scene in 2006, promoting his Sleaze parties in hometown of Paisley, whilst fomenting early production ties with Ali Wells’ robust Perc Trax imprint. Sleaze has since expanded into an established digital label, mastering and booking agency, boasting over 60 releases and Europe-wide showcases. After cementing his reputation as an accomplished producer with a slew of 12”s on labels Elettronica Romana, Prologue and his own Zooloft, Giorgio Gigli turned to Electric Deluxe last year to unveil Endless—his psychedelic-inspired collaboration with Perc. As with his studio work, from the decks Gigli’s penchant for intensely rhythmic techno has been known to hypnotise the dance floor.
Finally, Dettmann and Klock will be ushering in some solid Berlin vibes: Dettmann—who has lately proven his worth beyond the “Techno Mecca”, aligning himself with the esteemed Music Man Records and budding tastemakers 50Weapons; and Klock—who no doubt will be suspending time once again with another marathon session from the decks.
