Substance 5th Birthday - Melt Into Air

  • 5 YEARS OF SUBSTANCE - MELT INTO AIR NATHAN FAKE - LIVE (Border Community/London) Nathan Fake is the precocious young heir to the UK electronica throne who has kept fans guessing ever since his debut release at the tender age of 19, his output spanning the electronic spectrum, from fuzzy-edged synths to maximal acidic techno beats. It was the huge single 'Outhouse' which transformed him into a household name, largely propelling both Fake and Border Community to world renown overnight. Several EPs of varying styles followed (perhaps most prominently, the prototechno, quasi-house jack and destroyed acid of 'Dinamo') before he arrived at the pastoral down-beat shoegaze of his first full length, 2006's 'Drowning in a Sea of Love'. Fake returned with a bang with the 'Hard Islands' in 2009, a record which takes up a twisting, breathing 4/4 pulse, swarming with bleeps, slivery syncopated hats and club-friendly crescendos. A chosen remixer of Radiohead's 'King of Limbs', the Nathan Fake computer edit funk treatment has also recently been given to Jon Hopkins and Warp's PVT, with a new LP currently being prepped for release in early 2012. http://www.nathanfake.co.uk/content/ http://redbullmusicacademyradio.com/shows/2263/ DJ PETE (Scion/Substance/TR-101, Scion Versions/Chain Reaction/Ostgut Ton/Tresor) Peter Kuschnereit aka DJ Pete is a man with some serious credentials. An eye witness to Techno’s zero hour in Berlin, he became one of the early forces shaping the German capital’s underground dance scene as an integral part of the legendary Hard Wax crew; producer; remixer; and, international dj. Kuschnereit is responsible for the first ever release on Basic Channel sub-label Chain Reaction as Scion alongside René Löwe (AKA Vainqueur), the landmark "Emerge“, which was followed by numerous key productions under his solo pseudonym Substance on labels like Scion Versions and Ostgut Ton, as well as remixes for luminaries Juan Atkins, Robert Hood and Rhythm & Sound. Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald decided that Scion were the right people to represent Basic Channel in the live arena, and the duo became one of the first adopters of Ableton Live, in the process creating 2002's epic Scion Arrange and Process Basic Channel Tracks mix CD. Pete continues to play select gigs, whilst holding residencies at Berghain and Wax Treatment, Hard Wax's Sunday night party at Horst Krzbrg. His sets comprise a wide range of the most important currents over the last 20 years: Techno with a tinge of Industrial, tougher House tracks, the proverbial Berlin Sound, as well as classic US Techno and Dubstep. http://www.scionversions.de/dj-pete-substance.html http://www.facebook.com/pages/Substance-aka-DJ-Pete/51660522098?sk=info http://waxtreatment.de/podcast/
