Golden Cage with Carl Craig, Octave One & John Roberts

  • This is a party two years in the making. It started off at Le Panic, wreaked the best type of havoc at Church of Techno, has seen names like Desyn Masiello & Anthony Pappa, Smash TV, Shonky, Ahmet Sendil and even joined forces with another successful Sydney party in Shrug for a truly memorable night with Sasha Le Monnier. It has long held a reputation for delivering quality parties, and while this is far from its swansong, with many more parties to come featuring high calibre internationals……….first things first kids, we have a birthday to celebrate. And it is a birthday that is going to be the oh-so-very special kind, laced with so much good deep house and techno, that it won’t be forgotten anytime soon. The much-anticipated Golden Cage 2nd birthday has along for the ride a carefully selected list of names that while rarely featuring on the same billing, will come together here for one night, to give Sydney punters their absolute best and a night to savour. Headlining the night, Carl Craig, undoubtedly a living legend and a creative visionary who typifies the Detroit sound. The man behind the label Planet E Communications, which in addition to his own work has spawned names like Kevin Sanderson and Moodyman, the man is a pioneer, and as he takes in Sydney as part of his Planet E world tour, the good money is on him giving us something to remember. Joining him is a duo whose sound similarly oozes Detroit: Octave One. Comprising of brothers Lenny and Lawrence Burden, the two have captivated audiences with their live performances over two decades, with their breathtaking show earlier this year at the Hyde Park Barracks testament to that. Rarely on the same billing as Craig, it will make the night even more special. But there is more, in particular, a rising star who has taken the deep house genre to a new level of innovation, John Roberts. Out of Ohio, but now based in Berlin, he is the man behind the critically acclaimed "Glass Eights" (2010), a debut album that mixed electronics with older instrument sounds, creating a delicate captivating warmth that he will bring to Sydney for the first time. And last but not least, one of our own rising stars in Claire Morgan, a mainstay on the Sydney scene with a sound that incorporates deep/tech house, acid, Detroit house, and of course techno. Accustomed to playing alongside big international names, she will lay down the perfect foundation for a night to remember. The side room with industrial feel to it will be hosting shining local stars, CO-OP Djs, Carlos Zarate & Sam Roberts, YokoO, Matt Weir & Kerry Wallace, Dave Stuart and Garth Linton with everything deeper sounds.. The diversity and quality of music taken care of, and befitting a night as big as this, the venue must match it. Somewhere where the wide expanses will give the crowd room to move, and the sound can be tweaked perfectly, allowing these guys to do what they do best, with the sound exactly where it needs to be: namely, spot on. Come December 17, the Metro will be the place to be. Bring your party hats; this will be one 2nd birthday party to remember. Tickets on sale Wednesday 12 October on TICKETEK.com.au
