We are 4! Welcome to another Louche birthday and what a special one we've got lined up, we took it upon ourselves to invite three special guests to join in the celebrations: Omar S, Shonky and Nicholas (Live).
In the game for over ten years now, Alex Omar Smith has become another addition to the great techno legacy of his hometown Detroit, up there with the likes of Derrick May, Carl Craig and Jeff Mills. His music, which can be heard exclusively on his world famous label FXHE, is raw, unfiltered and anthemic. Washed with sweeping melodies and harmonies, laid over crisp analog drum patterns, his music moves your heartstrings as much as your feet; check his recent album 'It Can Be Done But Only I Can Do It', which received critical acclaim right across the board. A world class DJ but also mysterious individual, Smith is renowned for keeping himself to himself; we really can't wait to meet and hear him.
Key member of the French house scene who have been heavily involved with Circo Loco at DC 10 this summer, Shonky is next up, returning to Leeds after a year long absence. The Parisian, who now lives in Berlin, has a natural aptitude for electronic music, which has been evident since his first release back in 2007. Inspired by house legends such as Kerri Chandler and Gemini, Shonky has created his own innovative style of mixing, writing and producing, although funnily enough before he became seduced by Paris' underground scene he initially planned on being a mathematician. His music is sexy, hypnotic and groovy; check his massive hit from last year ' Le Velour' or other work on taste-making labels Freak n Chic, Contexterrior, Real Tone and Culprit. A superb DJ, we witnessed him tear Watergate to pieces this summer, and no doubt he will do the same at Mint Club.
Last but by no means least is Italian Nicholas, who is flying his live set over for his Leeds debut appearance. Growing up in a small town in Tuscany but sounding like he has lived in Chicago all his life Nicholas' sound is underground, raw and extremely soulful. His back catalogue consists of originally produced, beautifully synthesised house bombs and a huge array of edits, lending samples from old funk and soul records. He owns a highly respected vinyl only label ' No More Hits', and his tunes can also be heard on Kolour Ltd, Needwant and House is the Cure. He's even recently been signed to secretsundaze's booking agency. We couldn't think of anyone who's music is more suited to a birthday party.
Visionquest, Zip, Wolf + Lamb, Prosumer, Dyed Soundorum, Nicholas Jaar and Soul Clap are amongst the artists to play for us over the last four years, and we can't believe how quickly it's gone! It doesn't seem that long ago since our first party back in 2007. We'll be decking our faithful home The Mint Club out with birthday gear as usual, feel free to bring your own party hats, and be prepared to stay late, this one is going to be extra EXTRA special.
Afterparty: We return for our annual afterhours in the cosy little basement of Distrikt Bar. Expect all the usual shenanigans. Please note the afterhours is first come first served with only 150 spaces available.
