Animals Dancing Nyd: Motor City Drum Ensemble & 6th Borough Project

  • Animals Dancing presents Motor City Drum Ensemble and 6th Borough Project at The Bridge at South Wharf on New Years Day. This New Years Day, Animals Dancing crawls up the basement stairs to present our first foray into daytime partying. Taking place at The Bridge, the freshly built venue on the Yarra’s edge in South Wharf, we are very excited to announce the complete line-up. Motor City Drum Ensemble (MCDE/20:20 Vision) Danilo Plessow first began a love affair with Jazz at an early age, after playing drums in his school big band. After turning heads with his house and broken beat duo ‘Inverse Cinematics’, it was his 3 part ‘Raw Cuts’ series, each constructed from samples in less than two hours, and released under the Motor City Drum Ensemble moniker that really sent waves though the electronic music world. Danilo then preserved, and increased his reputation by undertaking remix projects that consistently showcased his distinctive, yet adaptable style. Clearly digging for studio gear along with records, his productions are increasingly using more hardware, along with his Jayson Brothers alias that has paid homage to the art of sampling. Danilo’s passion for researching and digging also shines through in his Djing selection; captured this year when he programmed the coveted ‘DJ Kicks’ for Studio !K7. His mix is a striking collection of Cosmic Jazz, Dub, Soul, Funk, Disco, Afrobeat, Electronica, House and Techno. Danilo is well overdue for a second visit to our shores and we are very pleased to be able to have him play his only Melbourne show for Animals Dancing. 6th Borough Project (Instruments of Rapture/Delusions of Grandeur) UK production duo made up of famed Edinburgh DJ Craig Smith and prolific production wizard Graeme Clark have worked together in the studio for more than a decade, producing deep, underground house music and exploring long forgotten funk and dusty disco dubs. Since 2008 they've grown from strength to strength, releasing weapons on labels such as Jiscomusic, Permanent Vacation, Delusions Of Grandeur, Instruments Of Rapture and the much sought after L.E.S.S. Productions. This year saw the release of their much praised debut LP ‘One Night in the Boroughs’ which displayed the duo’s diversity through the 15 tracks spanning a landscape of tempos, styles and emotions. Both Graeme and Craig have achieved much personal success, with Mr Clark being one of the most highly regarded producers and remixers over the last few years, developing a distinct house and disco inspired sound that has taken the world by storm. Craig Smith has been a DJ for 25 years and his 10-year residency at Edinburgh’s ‘Honeycomb’ saw it develop mass acclaim as one of Europe’s best parties. His sets are testament to his 25 years experience, and he is responsible for bringing many of house music’s visionaries such as MAW, Kerri Chandler, and DJ Deep to Edinburgh. Joining the internationals is one of the best local lineups you will see this New Year’s Day. Once again we are bringing together our Melbourne #dancecommunity comrades; the cream of the local deep house scene, many of whom already have a serious reputation internationally.
