Picnic presents Andrew Weatherall & Neville Watson - Sydney Festival 2012

  • Picnic are ultra stoked to be included in the 2012 Keystone Festival Bar, Sydney Festival program! After our first (amazing) show last year there were a lot of "who can we get", "how can we top that", "what if we don't deliver" questions... As we do in the face of most big questions we looked deep inside our hearts for the truth* This is what we saw. ANDREW WEATHERALL Andrew Weatherall is many things to many people. One of the guys behind the seminal Boys Own record label; the almighty tastemaker that has compiled some of the most iconic releases of the last 15 years (9 O’Clock Drop on Nuphonic anyone?); the man that took Primal Scream and changed their sound and the sound of London clubbing and changed it for the better, for ever. Or the cool remixer of the 90s – for everyone from My Bloody Valentine to Bjork. The producer that has made some of the most talked about cult releases that were widely listened to. From the Sabres Of Paradise to Two Lone Swordsmen and is now releasing under his own name and the killer “Andrew Weatherall Vs The Boardroom” releases on his label that he's been running since 2001 – The Rotters Golf Club. The DJ that plays all the big clubs for all the big names – from Danny Rampling’s legendary 90s Shoom night (pretty much where Acid House started) to Robert Johnston’s in Frankfurt a couple of weeks ago, Andrew Weatherall is the DJ everyone amazing turns to when they want to call in a good head fucking. He is still one of the most in-demand DJs in the world, already booked to headline the Electric Elephant, Croatia in 2012 and set to release his next artist album over the next months – there is no slowing down or changing tact for Weatherall, he will always be the true champion of the modern underground even if he dresses like his from the 1800s. NEVILLE WATSON You may be most familiar with his name through his collaborations with Bulgarian housemeister KiNK, but there is a lot more to Neville Watson then some of the best goddamn records ever made. After the obligatory few years partying in clubs, warehouses and fields he took up DJ’ing and opened the Mighty Atom record shop and label in Windsor. This path would ultimately lead to infamous Acid House disco Checkpoint Charlie where he was to became resident DJ alongside Mat Carter, sharing the bill with the likes of Laurent Garnier, Andrew Weatherall, Colin Dale, Craig Richards, Slam and many more. In 2006 Mighty Atom released its final 12”. Since then Neville has concentrated on releasing his own brand of deep, raw and jacking House on labels such as Clone and Dissident, as well as Rush Hour, Poker Flat, Tiny Sticks and Mule with KiNK. As a DJ Neville has played far and wide from sweaty basements in London and Moscow to the walls of an abandoned prison in Tallinn, visiting the main floors of Twilo, Berghain and Panorama Bar along the way. See YOU there!!!!!! Tickets: http://www.sydneyfestival.org.au/2012/Music/Picnic-Andrew-Weatherall-Neville-Watson-Keystone-Festival-Bar/ *hahaha
