Plex - Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, Mystery Guest, A Made Up Sound

  • Hello Plex family! We can hardly wait to welcome you on February 3rd with a massive line up, including the arrival of Detroit's Anthony 'Shake' Shakir. Joining him will be on-fire producers A Made Up Sound (aka 2562), Objekt and Inigo Kennedy, and the massively talented artists Nightwave (playing LIVE!) and DJ Rum. We are very glad to have one of the best DJs in the UK joining us too, whose name won't be revealed until you guys get down there on the night. Strepsil makes his return with his immaculate mix technique, and all this backed up by your inimitable residents James Tec and Luke Handsfree. 3rd February 2012 PLEX | FRIDAY 3RD FEBRUARY 2012 ANTHONY 'SHAKE' SHAKIR [FRICTIONAL, RUSH HOUR, HONEST JON'S] SECRET MYSTERY GUEST A MADE UP SOUND (AKA 2562) [AMUS, DELSIN, CLONE] INIGO KENNEDY [TOKEN, ASYMMETRIC] OBJEKT [OBJEKT, YOUNG TURKS] NIGHTWAVE [SEED, SVETLANA INDUSTRIES] - LIVE DJ RUM [YARDCORE, 2ND DROP] STREPSIL [STREPSIL.NET] LUKE HANDSFREE [PLEX, HANDSETTE] JAMES TEC [PLEX, BRACKOUT] TICKETS: £12 ADVANCE/ £15 ON THE DOOR (£10 NUS) 10PM - 7AM @ CORSICA STUDIOS, 4/5 ELEPHANT ROAD, SE17 1LB Headlining our first 2012 jaunt will be long-time Detroit badman, Anthony 'Shake' Shakir. Ask anyone who knows about innovative techno who they have respect for and Shake will be one of them. He released a collection of his works in a 5 LP set called Frictionalism which really displayed the depth and breadth of his productions and in turn endeared him to a whole new audience. Resident Advisor were certainly into it, giving it a very rare 5 star review! Shake always digs deep when putting together his DJ sets, leading to astonished faces when he drops those top-secret Detroit bombs. He'll be playing a 2 hour set for us; expect fire! A Made Up Sound otherwise known as 2562 will be giving his unique take on techno, house and bass music an airing on Corsica's thunderous rigs. His most recent release 'Take The Plunge' on his own label A Made Up Sound has been making serious waves across the electronic music spectrum, making many end-of-year lists. His skill as a DJ is well known and we will be hearing more dancefloor heft from him on the night. Obekt has had an amazing year in 2011. Despite only releasing 2 records and one split with SBTRKT, he has already remixed Radiohead and Super Super and every single one of the tracks have been jaw-droppingly good. Striking a deft balance between dubstep-style driving bass and more technoid heaviness, he's set to have an amazing year this year too. You can hear his skill as a DJ in the Fact mix he just recorded... we are so happy to have him down to kick off 2012 in fine style. He'll be playing a specially extended 3 hour set! Long time UK techno hero Inigo Kennedy has been a pillar of UK electronic music since the mid 90s. His productions show depth and musicality alongside a hefty helping of heaviness and along the way he has made some absolutely incredible music including the stunning Obsidian on Token Records and most recently the stormer Revenge, which was backed with a tough Blawan remix. Widely regarded as one of the best techno DJs in the UK, he will be playing a storming set in the main room. RBMA alumni and innovative producer Nightwave has been building an impressive catalogue of work, initially as 8bitch and now as Nightwave. Her debut Equinox EP on Seed Records set the standard high and the follow ups The Feel and Night Heat EPs show that she's got the heavy dancefloor vibes dialled. We're looking forward to Maya's LIVE debut at Plex with great anticipation! DJ Rum has a long history in London's music scene being a founding member of the Yardcore crew and now putting out tracks that are making end-of-year lists, notably with his Mountains EP which was T++'s number one record of 2011. A seriously skilled DJ, mixing and scratching up Techno, Bass, Garage and anything he feels works, we know Corsica's rigs will be given a proper workout. Long time close friend and ally of Plex Strepsil is known for his canny mixes and blends. Probably the only man we know to put samples of cockney old ladies shouting into his sets alongside heavy bass music and deep techno! Adding to this already unbelievable bill is one of our favourite DJs, a sure party starter and one of the most highly regarded DJs in the UK. He has had an incredible few years; telling more would be too much of a giveaway! He'll be breaking out from his usual style a little bit to play a storming Techno set. Having heard him play across styles over the years we know he will be digging deep and providing serious dancefloor destruction! All of this with able assistance from your residents James Tec and Luke Handsfree... see you front left speaker! Plex
