As One presents: Layo & Bushwacka! Global Underground Rio Launch Party

  • Changes are afoot at Olmeto. Layo & Bushwacka!’s superb monthly party is The End’s flagship Saturday night, and throughout 2007, Olmeto has set aside AKA for the sumptuous sounds of Will Saul and his label Simple Records. However, from September onwards, we mix things up with Will and guests taking care of The End’s lounge, whilst Layo & Bushwacka! continue to flex their muscles in the main room. Into AKA goes Freerange, a label much loved by both the Olmeto and Simple chiefs. Freerange head honcho Jimpster will be bringing his label’s deep and melodic sounds, plus specially selected guests, to AKA each and every month. After a month bedding into the new format, October’s Olmeto takes on special significance with the night acting as a vehicle to launch not one, but two major albums. First up in the main room, Layo & Bushwacka! will be marking the release of their first mix album in nearly four years. Global Underground - champions of the mix album format with a back catalogue that reads like a DJ Allstars list - have bestowed the honour of mixing the latest instalment, ‘Global Underound Rio’, upon the pair. As with all GU albums, it’s a two-disc affair, and as with their last mix album ‘All Night Long’, the boys wanted to represent both the old and the new. CD1 represents the finest music of the past 20 years with many personal favourites from the likes of Ellis D, Francois K and Lil’ Louis, whilst CD2 covers the very best of their current sets, taking in tracks from cutting edge talent such as Phonique, Tiga, Guy Gerber and Henrik Schwartz. Joining Layo & Bushwacka! in the main room is one of Germany’s most exciting new talents, Daso, who will be performing one of his wild live shows. Simple was a massive success story in AKA; Will Saul’s mix of deep organic house and techno provided the perfect soundtrack. The move down to The End’s lounge however, offers Will the opportunity to beef up his sound slightly and be even more adventurous in his track selection. With guests this year already having included the likes of Joakim, Ewan Pearson, I:Cube and Spirit Catcher we can expect more top notch bookings from Will. Lining up alongside him in October will be Stefan Goldmann. Together, they’ll be celebrating the release of Simple’s latest mix album; a future classic two-disc album compiled and mixed by Will Saul. It comprises one CD which combines new tracks from Will himself with remixes of classic Simple releases by artists like Gui Boratto, 2020 Soundsystem and Dixon’s Wahoo, plus a second CD compiling the highlights of Simple’s recent back catalogue. Taking AKA’s reins for Freerange will be label boss Jimpster. The Freerange gang are still celebrating their ‘Best British Label’ victory at the DJ Mag Best of British Awards recently, a title fully deserved after a year of incredible releases from the likes of Milton Jackson, Shur-I-Kan, Brett Johnson and of course, Jimpster himself. The main man was once described by Ben Watt as a ‘future soul kingpin and bittersweet house don’, and as endorsements go, they don’t get much better than that – so be sure to check out the future soul kingpin himself with his guest, X-Press 2’s Diesel.
