Sound Noir 3-Year Anniversary: A Tribute To NY with Maurice Fulton, Dj Qu, Jacques Renault and

  • We're celebrating our 3-Year anniversary with a big bang! Sound Noir is taking over 2 cavernous rooms of the Morgan to showcase some of the most brilliant and influential NY-raised artists who shape the cutting edge of the modern dance music. Lovingly put together with custom system by Nicksound, art installations by Jemina Vita, projections by Lightwerk team and many more surprises, this is our tribute to the people and the energy that can be found only in this city! ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Sound Noir 3-Year Anniversary: A Tribute To New York Main Room: Maurice Fulton (Running Back, DFA | Sheffield) DJ Qu (Strength Music, UQ) Jacques Renault (Runaway, Let's Play House) Helping Hands (Sound Noir, Algo Rhythm) J Red (Sound Noir) 2nd Room: Lenny Posso (Thema, Radio) Atomly (Wolf+Lamb, Aftrs) Felipe Q (Prince of Queens) feat. Camille Rankine - LIVE J.D. (Halcyon, Soul People Music) Mike Minogue (Sound Noir) /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// MAURICE FULTON is a brilliant, elusive and highly unpredictable producer behind literally hundreds of records that defined (and then defied) modern left-field house and disco. You've heard his funky creations as Cyclops for DFA, Boof for Running Back, out-there dance punk of MU (with his wife Mutsumi) on Output and at least 20(!) other names. Maurice has remixed and produced household names like the Rapture, Annie, !!!, Hot Chip and Kathy Diamond yet his public appearances are few and far in between, making each one truly special - not least because he also happens to be an amazing DJ who can easily run a whole spectrum of dance music genres within a couple of hours. Having spent the formative years of his career in New York, Maurice is the perfect example of the kind of eclectic musical energy that can originate only here! DJ QU has come to be globally recognized as the visionary master of hypnotic groove. Be it via his original productions on UQ and Strength Music or his sets at the top dance music institutions like Panorama Bar, Fabric and Robert Johnson, Qu is pushing the boundaries of rhythmic complexity in house and techno. It is no surprise that his style has its beginnings in a successful dance career as Qu's intuition never fails to find the right records to make you move. We're truly excited to finally bring the Qu experience to Sound Noir after dancing many a night away to his sets. JACQUES RENAULT is the rapidly rising star of the new New York dance music generation. No doubt influence by the long-standing traditions of the downtown disco and house sound he's chosen to contribute and build on it rather than merely imitate. Already in high regard as a producer both under his own name and as Runaway (with Marcos Cabral), he is now taking his NY-tempered DJ skills on a world tour while at the same time managing to run 2 labels and a great local party - that's multi-tasking right there. Jacques has played a great set at our loft event a couple of years back and we can't wait to have him back! LENNY POSSO is one of the best local techno DJs and the head of the excellent record label Thema, which since its inception in 2006 has gained more momentum and world-wide recognition with each consecutive release. Past year has undoubtedly seen the label rise to the next level of international recognition with classy and classic releases by Terrence Dixon, Norm Talley and Christopher Rau - and there's no sign of slowing down. Lenny also happens to be one of the people who contributed a lot of time and talent to get Sound Noir up and running so we are especially happy to let you experience one of his energetic sets. ATOMLY is an imposing presence to reckon with behind the decks and on the late night dancefloors of the city. Moving from Minneapolis to Chicago to NY with sleepovers in Berlin he's never stopped producing and playing out, releasing on and off on his own Atomiq Records as well as via the early Wolf+Lamb Music. Rooted in early experiments with electronic sounds, Adam's musical tastes reach way beyond the expected modern dancefloor fare into italo-disco, post-punk and psychodelic pop. We have no idea what to expect from him this night - we just know wherever Atomly goes he brings the party along (hidden in that beard?). J.D. aka Jordan Poling is a fresh new face in the local dance music circles but one that is sure to get more attention very soon. Relocating from Midwest a few years ago Jordan has applied his d'n'b-sharpened DJ skills to the modern breed of deep techno, house and bass music. The result is impeccable mixing technique and excellent taste no doubt informed by years of working at Halcyon the record shop. Not content with only DJ'ing Jordan is also working on his unique production style which already manifested itself with a track for C.O.M.E. compilation on Fred P's label Soul People Music. FELIPE Q is another newcomer to watch out for. Already accomplished as a keyboard player and drummer with Columbian fusion funk outfit MAKU, since discovering a passion for house and disco music he has been tirelessly working on tracks influenced by old-school NY downtown sound. Felipe already has an album-worth of dope tracks on his hands so just you wait for them to be released in the wild. For our 3-year anniversary mr Q is playing an all-hardware live house set and trust us you wouldn't want to miss it. AMAURY ARIAS is familiar to pretty much anyone who's interested in hearing truly underground deep sounds in this city. Known first and foremost as a true dance music crate-digger who manages to find the rarest of lost gems that slipped through the cracks of other DJ's attention, he's been active in the past year with his party Algo Rhythm, a collab with JM de Frias of Sequencias label. Just in 2011 alone they have featured top names like Marcellus Pittmann, Oskar Offerman, Patrik Russell, Madteo and Eric Cloutier as well as collaborated with us on Chez Damier and James T Cotton parties. Amaury has been an integral part of SN for over 2 years and he is forever a member of the extended family. And of course featuring SOUND NOIR resident DJs: J RED, MIKE MINOGUE and ANDREY RADOVSKI. Stay tuned for even more details This party would not be possible without the generous support from our friends HALCYON: http://halcyonline.com/ LET'S PLAY HOUSE: http://www.lphnyc.com/ THEMA: http://soundcloud.com/thema ALGO RHYTHM: [email protected] STRENGTH MUSIC: http://soundcloud.com/djqu-strength-music
