Birth Records presents Crystal Fighters [dj], Lcmdf, Is Tropical, I.R.O.K

  • THE PLAYGROUND presents: CRYSTAL FIGHTERS- DJ- Crystal Fighters’ style is a fusion of genres – fast progressive dance music joined by the melodies and dances of traditional Basque folk, alongside synthesisers, bass-driven wonk-funk, with beats fuelled by early 80s Spanish punk and experimental electronica from bands such as Aviador Dro, Las Vulpes and Dulce Venganza. Paul Lester, of The Guardian has described their style as "what would happen if you went back 100 years, dropped a load of recording equipment into a remote Basque village and left the villagers, steeped in folk music, to their own devices." LCMDF- LE CORPS MINCE DE FRANCOIS- Finnish music is not generally noted for its sunny side - making LCMDF possibly the least Finnish band ever to emerge from Helsinki. If Moscow audiences are familiar with the flamboyantly OTT operatic metal of Nightwish or the lo-fi indie of bands like Husky Rescue, an onslaught of shouty bubble gum pop from a vivacious pair of sisters came as something of a shock to the system. Far from the crystalline sounds of the frozen north, or the quirky ruminations of a society on the fringes of Europe's cultural mainstream, this was an all-out, in-yer-face assault of summery vibes. I.R.O.K.- With two of the original members from DEAD KIDS, including front man , I.R.O.K. are the INTERGALACTIC REPUBLIC OF KONGO. Described as “violent psychotropic afro-punk” they are already one of “HMV’s NEXT BIG THING” tips for 2012 and rightly so. IS TROPICAL- DJ- This London 3-piece have been described as sounding like The Strokes if they gave up hard-rock-Thin Lizzy and listened to ratatat/justice. An Electronica sound concerned more with creating hooks and melody, but won’t shy away from throwing in a loop every now and then. From the moment you finish listening to their first song, you know you’ve found something that’ll stick with you. ROSIE VANIER (ROSIE & GOLDBUG)- Cornish girl Rosie Vanier’s early love of glitter and theatrical make up was borne from an unusual source - The Cure were once her babysitters. Early teenage band line-ups ebbed and flowed until Rosie’s first modest taste of fame and fortune arrived whilst fronting Rosie and The Goldbug. Her sex kitten, Betty Boop-gone-bad vocals, pummelling bass and choruses to die for quickly found favour with audiences at venues and festivals up and down the land. Press, radio and TV followed, culminating with international tour shows with one of Rosie’s childhood heroes, Cyndi Lauper. The attention led to opportunities for collaboration with a wide range of international song writing partners, creating a wealth of new songs to perform.‘The Neon Nightmare Tour’ in spring 2012 sees Rosie bring some of these songs to life as she embarks on an exciting solo adventure armed only with voice and Wurly keys. “Rosie Vanier has a voice that leaps from sugary pop to operatic whoops, her ivories chiming through a repertoire raging from the turbulent to the serene, like Kate Bush on crack with Goldfrapp on synths” ARP ATTACK- "The smouldering vocals and soaring synths of Frankie alongside quick-fingered multi-instrumentalist Chris create this rather interesting intermingling of electronic influences. Both with bags of contrasting eccentricities, they battle it out to be the bigger presence as their melodies fold together into an irresistibly rich sound. Not afraid to use distorted guitars and backed by full drums, they push past simple electronica into the realms of rock." OZONNA- African-born electro popper Ozonna may have chosen an unusual way to market himself, but in today’s hyper competitive music industry it pays to be original. Ozonna himself even admits that the message can be seen as clichéd, but it’s the way that message is delivered on his new single, “I Love Me”, that the London-based artist eliminates any sense of been-here-before. An eclectic mix of influences has inspired the record, which delivers pop-hooks underpinned with genuine musical ideology. Uber-cool outfit We Have Band provide the remix duties on “I Love Me” and production comes courtesy of Greg Fitzgerald (Kylie/ The Saturdays/ Madonna) and Itay Kashti. Think Marina and the Diamonds, Lightspeed Champion and a hint of Gaga, and you begin to get the idea. But Ozonna’s sound is still wholly individual. STARPUNK- is an Electronic Band from the roots of Georgia. Formed by Alex and Lasha, two young producers with different backgrounds and influences. Having already done official remixes for NOISIA and ZOMBIE NATION, their crafted tracks his production skills are a bruising muscular injection of amphetamines and strickning with a single jab. PUNX SOUNDCHECK- bring together the music that shaped them and the music that’s shaping their future, traversing disco and house, reggae and dubstep, electro and (old) rave, all the while sounding effortlessly and elegantly modern. DAN MCKIE B2B LLOYD CHAPMAN- Dan McKie manages to defy the cliché of genres by producing across the board, be it a underground techno, tech house monster to a peak time commercial dance chart track. He continues to remix the likes of The Whip, Stonebridge, Rogue Elements, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Lady GaGa, David Guetta, Colton Ford, Zimbardo, Dom Kane. As well as remix he also releases on such labels as Southern Fried, Stoney Boy, Joia, Positiva, Warner Bros, Sony, Universal, Columbia, Gusto, EMI, Newstate, RCA/BMG, Simply Recordings, Slip & Slide, aswell as his own imprints 1980 Recordings & HotFridge Records. PETE CARVELL- With a sound that is close to impossible to pigeon-hole, he is renowned as a hotbed of both indie and electronic with DJ's sets that sit comfortably in the realms of forward thinking house and techno.
