Entering its 5th year, 88 continues a history of expanding FORWARD Festival’s scope and opportunities for people interested in electronic creative culture. Each year, FORWARD is curated around a specific theme. The theme for this year’s festival is organic. As we enter 2012, we feel that it is important - now more than ever - to get back to our roots, live healthy and embrace that which is raw and pure. Artistically, organic will be represented in all visual aspects of the festival, with a particular focus on the 5 Chinese elements of the natural world: Fire, water, earth, wood and metal. Musically, the festival will focus more on back-to-back DJ nights, artists that we feel have an organic sound and installations that reflect the theme.
The grand finale for both Urban Artistry's International Soul Society Festival and Eighty Eight's Forward Festival is coming to Garfield Park on Capitol Hill in SE, Washington, DC this April 29, 2012 from 10am til dark!
If you can imagine an event where a series of great creative collaborations "FLOW"" together in a space that complements the vision and sound of each artistic contribution. In short- FLOW is everything you would ever want in an adult playground.
These two spectacular festivals draw to a close in a family friendly and FREE outdoor gathering to celebrate the diversity of our community and the beauty of creative collaboration.
There will be cutting edge programming centered on live art exhibitions and workshops; to include mural painting, parkour, live sound from DJ's and drummers, aerial dance performances, skateboarding, urban dance such as hip hop, house dance, old school dances from the soul train era and more.
Albus Cavus, Ben Ashworth & the 5 x 5 project, Eighty Eight, American Parkour, Primal Fitness, the Ascension Performance Troupe and Urban Artistry aim to unite artists, attendees, and the greater D.C. community in cultivating a caring, conscious society interested in pro-actively pushing things forward.
