The next installment of our flagship Berghain event brings home some of the sharpest electro flavours in the universe today, legends and future pioneers rubbing shoulders, Leisure System style.
Since his Variations EP in 2010 on Turbo, the name on everybody’s lips is Gesaffelstein. Taking some production tips from his Parisian contemporaries and running off into the darkness like a madman, the result is a pure distillation of evil, reckless brutality carried out with calm surgical precision. Using just the raw elements of bass, snare, hi hat and synth, Gesaffelstein works his own technique of electro-alchemy to create something far heavier than the sum of its parts. Not the soundtrack to Armageddon, rather the dark future that follows. Yes, we are excited.
After many years, a dream is about to be realized – bringing an ultra-rare live performance of Arpanet to Berlin for the first time ever! Heinreich Müller (the mind behind Drexciya and Dopplereffekt) has been consistently pushing forward the boundaries of electro since the early 90′s under many mysterious aliases, releasing on Rephlex, Underground Resistance, Tresor and other luminary labels. As with the Dopplereffekt performance at our 2nd Birthday, we have little idea what to expect, but one thing is certain – it will be unlike anything seen or heard before.
Aside from all that, there’s another reason we’re celebrating. April 9th see’s the release of LSR003, a personal, IDM-infused bass-heavy trip into the inner workings of our resident Barker (aka Voltek, Barker & Baumecker). Armed with a drum machine and a bag of unreleased bangers, Sam will be finishing off the night with one of his now infamous and genre-crossing closing sets.
Tying everything together in style, we’re bringing back one of our favourite DJ’s and part-time Leisure resident Rob Hall (Skam, Gescom), and the original Warp DJ N>E>D will be kicking off the night with his Berlin-via-Brighton electronic agenda.
Bei Leisure System stehen heute Nacht Legenden mit zukünftigen Pionieren der allerschärfsten Electro-Spielarten Schulter an Schulter. Seit seiner „Variations“ EP auf Turbo ist der Franzose Mike Levy mit dem lautmalerischen Projektnamen Gesaffelstein bekannt für seinen brutalen, post-apokalyptischen Sound. Aus wenigen Elementen kreiert er einen intensiven Klangkosmos, der die düstere Zeit nach dem Armageddon zu vertonen scheint. Gerade live ist der stets im smarten Anzug gekleidete Pariser eine sichere Bank. Sehr speziell wird sicherlich auch die Berlin-Premiere von Arpanet ausfallen. Gerald Donald ist ein Detroiter Phänomen, ein begnadeter Electro-Künstler mit unzähligen Projekten wie Heinrich Mueller, Dopplereffekt, Japanese Telecom und Drexciya. Futuristisch und geheimnisvoll. Daneben gibt es ein DJ-Best-of-Leisure System zu hören mit Barker, NED und Rob Hall. Ein Stockwerk höher holt Radio Slave bei einer Cabin Fever Nacht die Spiegelkugel aus dem Schrank. Cabin Fever ist sein limitiertes Vinyl-Only-Label, das ohne Künstlerangaben regelmäßig die Discosau durchs Dorf jagt. Secret Dancefloor Weapons im Früh-90er Hiphouse-Stil!
