Point Blank Online presents: Dirtybird Detroit

  • dirtybird Does Detroit – All Night Long Point Blank presents, Justin Martin, Claude VonStroke, Eats Everything, J. Phlip, Worthy & Leroy Peppers at City Club May 26 After a truly raucous daytime BBQ during Miami Music Week, dirtybird gets ready to head to Detroit’s Movement Festival, celebrating the release of Justin Martin’s debut album, ‘Ghettos & Gardens’, in the birthplace of Techno, with a sweaty, bass-driven all-night-long blowout at the historic industrial after-hours, City Club. WMC is a hard place for a party to stand out from the crowd, but the authenticity and sincerity behind dirtybird’s label showcase and BBQ captured peoples hearts and minds in Miami; an amazing outdoor venue, and some truly special sets, including a not-to-be-forgotten sunset performance from dirtybird hero, Phife Dawg, of A Tribe Called Quest. It was a fitting way to mark ten years of dirtybird’s notorious BBQ parties. During Movement Festival the dirtybird crew close in on Detroit for one of the final legs of their HATCHED world tour, while celebrating the release of Justin Martin’s “Ghettos & Gardens”. As befitting a party in the heartland of Techno, the BBQ has been stowed, in favor of a serious late-night afterhours session. Joining Justin Martin on the decks will be label founder Claude VonStroke (who plays this year’s Movement Festival), Eats Everything, J. Phlip, Worthy and Leroy Peppers (Christian Martin). It’s fitting that Detroit will serve as the launch for Justin Martin’s album. Much like that city, Justin’s debut is both tender and tough, sliding between delicate melodic moments, gritty basslines and devastating drops. Just as Detroit’s musical history is rich and varied, Martin refuses to be pigeonholed on ‘Ghettos & Gardens’, slipping through house, Techno, funk and hip-hop, to deliver one of dirtybird’s most original releases yet. City Club is one of Detroit’s most storied venues, it originally served as the ballroom for the historic Leland Hotel that is perched above the club. In 1983 it opened as ‘Lidernacht’ or night song in Germany and hasn’t looked back. Aside from Detroit techno icons like Derrick May, the venue has hosted the likes of Depeche Mode, the Beastie Boys, Nice Inch Nails, Public Enemy and more. This event is 18+.
