After Royalising Dalston for two days over Kate ‘n’ Wills’ wedding weekend last year, Land of Kings – the area’s annual cultural showcase – returns for a fourth reign on Friday 4th & Saturday 5th May.
Taking over 15+ venues, the festival sprawls across Kingsland High Street’s basement clubs, live music spaces and art galleries plus forgotten school halls, hidden banqueting suites and secluded gardens. Once again, punters are invited to roam the strip for two nights with wristband and map, hopping between the best of Hackney’s creative scenes.
Among the first wave of talent to be announced are post-industrial threesome Factory Floor, psychedelic pop prince Connan Mockasin, Estonian songstress Maria Minerva and hotly tipped ones- to-watch Kwes, Night Angles and Royalty. With club nights coming from the likes of Durrr, Black Atlantic, Dollop, To the Lazer Cave, DJs include The Horrors, Trevor Jackson, Is Tropical, Bullion, Gang Colours, Kutmah and Ray Mang. Delving deeper into the neighbourhood’s history as a hotbed of nocturnal happenings, the festival presents a multi-media programme of events based on the legendary Four Aces club, formerly on Dalston lane.
All this plus a bigger art & interactive line-up than ever including film screenings, art exhibitions, and strange goings on beneath Dalston’s main drag. And after popping-up in Turkish restaurants, backstreet warehouses and undiscovered caverns for previous years, the area’s favourite haunts will joined by more interesting spaces including rooftop gigs, loft parties and other happenings carved out of Kingsland’s unlikeliest nooks and crannies.
