The only thing that separates him is a handful of years - a decade or two in most cases: he’s still under the age of 20. 19-year-old wunderkind Kyle Hall has been actively involved in Detroit’s house music scene since age 11! Hall’s first break as a producer came at age 16, when he was approached by deep house luminary Omar-S, whose FXHE label released his debut record and introduced his music to a much wider audience for the first time. Since then, Hall has enjoyed continued support from Omar-S, whose recent Fabric radio mix consisted solely of Kyle Hall productions. Thus, having enlisted the support of the Motor City’s house elite, the stage was set for Hall to gain recognition as a respected artist in his own right. Despite being rooted in the lineage of Detroit deep house, Hall’s productions look resolutely forward and refuse to be constrained by the established formulas of the genre. This versatility has been showcased on Hall’s own Wild Oats imprint, launched in 2008. Hall’s releases on Wild Oats have met with wide critical acclaim and placed him squarely on the radar of those interested in the future of electronic music. His most recent reworking of Dennis Ferrer’s “The Red Room” single for Objektivity shows Hall’s versatility as a producer reaching all corners of the electronic music market. With releases on labels as diverse as Warp, Clone Records, Hypercolour and Objektivity it is clear that Hall is not simply a Detroit hometown hero, but an internationally renowned producer with a bright future ahead of him. Moreover, Hall is also in demand for his prowess behind the decks, and has graced the decks of at world-class clubs and events including Fabric (London), Panorama Bar (Berlin), Circo Loco @ DC 10 (Ibiza), Warehouse Project (Manchester), Tenax (Florence) and Melkweg (Amsterdam) as well as internationally renowned festivals including Coachella, Timewarp, Bloc, Outlook, Stop Making Sense and Source Festival to name a few. With a sense of intuition that spans far beyond his age, Kyle brings an energy to the decks that harks the generation before him, the real deal: strictly vinyl, and as gritty and raw as it gets. Most importantly, Kyle Hall continues to expand the sound of Detroit through his own Wild Oats imprint, which acts as a platform for his prolific productions and captures the spirit of the city he represents. As he puts it himself: "I want the label to represent the shit from Detroit, the feeling that I get when I’m here. A non-corrupted, and not a scene-oriented, feeling of creating music. That feeling of just doing the music that you love without all the frills. Wild Oats is about what works for Kyle Hall, the music that I think is good, filtered through me. It’s my life." Join us as we welcome Kyle Hall to the New School Deep stage on 4/20. By the early 90’s he was hanging out in the multicultural city's thriving after hours scene where DJs would be playing a cross section of house music from New York, Chicago, Detroit and Europe. Stuart grew up on labels such as Trax, DJ International, KMS, Nervous, Strictly Rhythm, & Nu Groove. Working at the Cosmos Records store during the late 90's led Stuart to dig further into Disco, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Latin & Brazilian music. With this wide spectrum of interest in music, Stuart's strength as a DJ is his versatility. Depending on the night and the crowd, he can throw down Detroit influenced Techno, Jacking Chicago style sounds, soulful and deep House, minimal tracks, disco, and sometimes even a combination of these. 2012 promises to be an exciting year for Basic Soul Unit as it will see the release of his first long player on Chicago’s Still Music. As with his Djing style, Stuart's music can swing from lush and soulful Detroit inspired numbers to crunchy jacking beats or smokey deep house (with hints of above aforementioned influences). He has released music on respected labels such as Dolly, Philpot, Mathematics, Mule Electronic, Versatile, Ostgut Ton, Créme Organization & New Kanada. His remix work has also garnered some critical praise including his rework of the classic Arnold Jarvis song “Take Some Time Out” or his remix for Jacob Korn on Panorama Bar reisdent Steffi’s Dolly label. Basic Soul Unit has been getting played and charted across a spectrum of music enthusiasts from deep house heads to techno aficionados. Stuart’s journey as a DJ has taken him to places like Berlin (Panorama Bar), Tokyo (Yellow, Loop), Stockholm, Barcelona, Madrid, Oslo, Glasgow, St Petersburg & New York. We are very fortunate to be able to snag this formidable homegrown talent for a rare Toronto appearance in between his busy international touring schedule. Join us as we welcome Basic Soul Unit to the New School Deep stage on 4/20. The duo was formed sometime in 2011 as they naturally gravitated towards each other over shared musical taste and complimentary strengths that ultimately made it obvious that the pair should work together. With a focus on Techno and quirky house music that resides on the deep end of the spectrum, the duo aims to produce original material that moves bodies, minds and souls without incurring severe bouts of dejavu in the process. The two artists consider themselves to be co-founders of The Deep North blog and crew, which has quickly grown to be a powerful player in Toronto's thriving EDM community, throwing infamous parties under the Late & Deep brand, which has been embraced by the city's active club culture. Max the Fax is a lover of Techno and Deephouse, but is a fan of music in general. Producing with a incessant fervor, Max the Fax has come a long way in the past two years, releasing an EP on Thoughtless Music as Phantom Ambulance and following it up with two official remixes of Deepchild's The Suffering Ones" as both Max the Fax and Phantom Ambulance. Max has also been DJing since early 2010. Dick Diamonds began his journey in the world of house and techno in 2009 as a promoter, having a natural affinity with the activity despite previous lack of interest and even disdain for the word "promoter". Quickly realizing that he had a knack for organizing events, he helped form the successful Major Rager and Large Marge events in Toronto before leaving to begin his own project: The Deep North. Dan has recently begun producing and has forthcoming releases on Zoo:Technique, Runnin Wild and 530 techno (with max), while continuing to DJ for this second year.
