Jam Music has released the much anticipated line up for Good Vibrations Festival 2008, and it certainly hasn’t disappointed!
Undoubtedly the most exciting name in hip-hop right now, Kanye West, will headline an amazing line up which runs the gamut from hip hop to funk to house and back! Kanye will headline Melbourne, Sydney and Perth ONLY as he has to fly back to the USA to attend the Grammy Awards on 10 February! Kanye will be fully orchestrated for his Good Vibrations Festival performance being joined onstage by DJ backing vocalists and a full string section! This is going to be an insane performance … in a good way!
Get ready to go Insane in the Brain when Rap superstars Cypress Hill bring their amazing live show to Good Vibrations Festival in 2008! Currently working with Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park) Cypress Hill will be dropping a new album in 2008 and are preparing to shake up the Hip Hop scene once again. The loud and funked up Latino Hip Hop Legends from South Central LA will be tearing it up across the country in 2008.
From South Central hip-hopping we hop, skip and jump to the world of UK disco and include Calvin Harris to the mix. He says he invented disco – and who are the hell are we to argue with history? At least we know he invented his electro-disco-pop hit Acceptable in the 80s, and that’s enough to convince us he’s not one to miss!
Since they hit the big one with the club monster House of Jealous Lovers, The Rapture have been raiding club, festival and house party dance floors across the world, and now they are ready to bring the party to the Good Vibrations Festival.
Then pick your feet back up and wander over to catch the hugely influential masters of exotic, blunted beats, Thievery Corporation, bringing their amazing 20 piece band to Australia for the first time. Rob Garza is setting a benchmark saying they will bring “A lot of energy, a lot of beats, horns, percussion, sitar, guitars, synth, it’s a really big show. We don’t skimp on the live show; we definitely just want to bring it!”
Someone who definitely knows the definition of party is the infamous James Zabiela – it’s all in the skills. Layering different sounds with the aid of two Pioneer CDJ1000s, a Pioneer DJM600 and a pair of trusty Technics 1210s, his hands will definitely let you know what your feet should be doing.
We all love a genre hopping artist keeping it fresh, and Pharoahe Monch, touring his long awaited and critically acclaimed new album Desire, brings some of his crossover appeal to the Good Vibrations Festival crowd this year.
Then there’s the devious duo: A-Trak is the DJs DJ, with live sets that own the space between turntablism and party rocking. Kid Sister is from Markham but now lives in Chicago, and makes club rap to rival the best of them. Kid Sister and A-Trak are going to rock, rap and turntable the pants off Good Vibrations Festival 2008.
Someone who knows how to shoot it straight is Aussie star Katalyst, and on the back of 2007’s What’s Happening album and fresh from a UK Festival run, he must be as excited as us that he’ll be sharing the Vibes’ stage with RuCL, Hau (Koolism) and UK Soul Superstar Steve Spacek.
Remember when MC meant Master of Ceremonies? Well in ’08, Bay Area California’s finest, Lyrics Born, will be the official host of the Good Vibrations and Roots stages! With one of the most commanding voices in the business and an ability to work the crowd like no other, LB will guide you through the Good Vibrations experience and make sure you’re feeling the hype in all the right places.
Rounding up the internationals are Sinden, K-OS, High Contrast Feat. MC Wrec, Pigeon John, Surkin, 16 Bit Lolitas, The Bag Raiders, Radioclit and Beat Vandals with The Stafford Brothers bringing it home on the Aussie front.

Kanye West is the always outspoken American record producer and rapper who rose to fame with his debut album The College Dropout in 2004, and his second album Late Registration in 2005 (nominated for the Grammy for Album of The Year and certified platinum in Australia), for which he received numerous awards (including six Grammys). He has just released his third long player Graduation. One of the most anticipated albums of the year, Graduation features the smash single Stronger with its synth-heavy, Daft Punk-sampling. He releases the, sure to be a hit, second single Good Life off the album next week on 5 November.

Cypress Hill
Since the group's formation in 1988, the pioneering rap quartet Cypress Hill -- founders B-Real, DJ Muggs, and Sen Dog, along with latest member Eric Bobo -- have come a long way from the streets of South Gate, CA. Over the course of its 19-year history, Cypress Hill has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. Cypress Hill reached the status we know today with their album Black Sunday, released in 1993. Black Sunday entered the charts at #1 and included one of the biggest tracks of all time; Insane in the Brain. Their trademark rolling drum n bass loops have been widely influential and imitated by many – including Dr Dre’s G-Funk and English trip-hop – but none come close to the original, the loudest, the most outrageous, Cypress Hill!

Calvin Harris
With hits like Acceptable in the 80s, The Girls and Merrymaking at My Place already to his name, you can see why disco is coming back in fashion. This summer, Calvin and his 5 piece band will have everyone dancing, probably singing, and definitely jumping around to his banging electro-pop-dance-disco delights. Calvin Harris’s debut album, with the subtle title I Created Disco, says it all: this guy is here to get you dancing.

The Rapture
Perhaps the best way to understand The Rapture is to stop worrying about genres and labels and simply get into the music. They tell us that what we should expect at their show is to forget about everything for an hour – now that is what we want! The moment they released the international dance floor hit House of Jealous Lovers in 2002, New York quartet The Rapture redefined the tip of the indie iceberg fusing the skronk and chaos of punk with the precision and funk of basement after-party disco beats. The first new single from album Pieces of the People We Love, is Get Myself Into It - a sweltery dance floor cut fuelled by a bobbing bassline and jagged guitar bursts, and embellished with sultry saxophone and echoey percussion that show The Rapture circa 2006 bringing the party forward and pushin' the positive.

Thievery Corporation
Thievery Corporation are one of the few champions borne out of the late 90’s ‘Chillout’ scene who have outgrown and outlived their niche to inhabit a genre all of their own. The duo caught the ears of underground DJ’s with their first two 12” offerings, “2001 Spliff Odyssey” and “Shaolin Satellite” and with their 1997 debut LP, Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. Though the terminology has varied, they have been at the top of the game ever since. They raised the production value significantly with the highly acclaimed The Mirror Conspiracy, which contained the seminal international hit “Lebanese Blonde,” which was featured on the Grammy winning and platinum selling Garden State Soundtrack. Released in February of 2005, The Cosmic Game broke new ground for Thievery with high profile collaborations with The Flaming Lips, Perry Farrell, and David Byrne contributing outstanding performances to an album that pushed Thievery’s signature sound in new directions. Their amazing live show for the first time in Australia will feature sitar, percussion, horns, guest vocalists and more!

James Zabiela
Two years ago, James Zabiela popped his Balearic cherry by warming up for Sasha at the place the island calls Inside At Space. Wowing the crowd - and We Love boss - with two hours of snappy, synth-fixated, breakbeat action - it was a defining moment in his DJ career. Two years later, he's now the club's new bi-weekly resident. Now that's progression! James's style is trippy, bleepy and deeply - nay, downright - groovy. Oh, and watch out for a few gnarly basslines along the way. Those nasty, dirty sounds are a part of Jay-Z's signature sound now. Scratches, loops, fluttering chord changes and are all par for the course in a Zabiela set. No wonder childhood idols Depeche Mode remain his heroes.

Pharoahe Monch
South Bronx’s finest; Pharoahe Monch is coming to Australia for the first time. Pharoahe Monch has earned a reputation as one of hip-hop’s most gifted lyricists, tackling real issues with a “full, flawless voice” (Spin), from his pioneering work as one half of the critically acclaimed alternative hip-hop duo Organized Konfusion to his much-hyped solo debut in 1999. A-Trak & Kid Sister
In the turntablist scene, A-Trak (Alain Macklovitch) established himself as the DJ’s DJ, building routines that were technical whilst still remaining appealing to the untrained ear. A-Trak is in the midst of recording his first album, which will showcase his distinctive style of scratch-based and sample-heavy production, as well as cameos from some of his favourite emcees.
Kid Sister is from Markham, IL but currently resides on Chicago's north side. She makes club rap and DJ’s with her real brother, and yes that does rule. Together they're taking the Chicago music scene by storm, rocking parties and causing all-around dance floor mayhem.

Sinden

Pigeon John
Described as ‘The Beatles and De LA playing Ping Pong’, Pigeon John’s infectious energy and show-stopping performances put him in a world of his own. Hailing from sunny Southern California it's easy to assume his signature blend of wit, charisma and undeniable stage presence is a fortunate gift (and it is), but let's be real…everyone starts somewhere. Pigeon John cut his teeth in the early 90s at the legendary Good Life Café, spitting rhymes on the same stage with then fledgling, now established artists like Jurassic 5. Another brilliant French artist? Who would have thought! That’s right; Surkin is the latest, youngest, hottest, freshest talent to emerge from the French scene.
