Fast forward four weeks and the thrust is once again focused on delivering some of the finest electronic music from around the globe, only the swagger is doubled to showcase two events. First up is a genre smashing ensemble of artists that tear throughout the gutsier end of dance music, headed up by the inimitable 2ManyDJs. The kings of the cross genre mash-up, 2ManyDJs didn’t just re-write the rulebook at the start of the century with their lauded As Heard on Radio Soulwax mix CDs, they tore it up, shredded the remains and then lashed the scattered pages into a cauldron of boiling hot liquid. The resulting concoction was where the idea of genre was a challenge rather than a restriction, putting rockabilly next to acid techno and RnB side by side with speaker shredding electro. They brought the party like never before and showcased that the dancefloor was all about having fun, creating eclectic tapestries of pure hedonism and euphoria. World domination then commenced as their sound became more refined they proved that they were not just flash in the pan DJs with a gimmick, but genuine craftsmen that had a gloriously intuitive style and raucous party starting attitude. It’s slipped into their production résumé as well, as part of supergroup Soulwax they redefined what live dance music should be about and took the art of remixing to the next level; check their recent cut of Arcade fire’s ‘Sprawl’ as proof of their indefatigable ingenuity. They are all set to blow Gibb St’s beautifully adorned walls to smithereens for an extended exercise in brutal dancefloor tomfoolery. Joining them will be none other than Alex Metric, another superhero of ecelctica who ransacks everything from electro, techno and bass music in his dancefloor assaults. His latest album, Ammunition, is set for release later this year and has also seen support from the great and good of modern djing with tracks such as ‘Rave Weapon,’ ‘Epichords’ and ‘Anybody Else.’ His flair for the remix has also seen him develop a penchant for reinterpreting vocal tracks, not least the reinvention delivered for Depeche Mode’s classic ‘Personal Jesus’, restoring the original spirit of the song with a beefed up approach to the guitars and drums and Dave Gahan’s unforgettable drawl. His Gibb St debut is sure to be a momentous affair.
