Fields #4 - Danceable Experiments in Live Electronica

  • Now for round #4 of our showcase of new live electronica. After killer sets from Raffertie, Ghosting Season, Get People, Graphics, Vaetxh, Hiatus and Shura and Mach V - and a particularly spectacular debut for The Slow Revolt at the last FIELDS - we're back again July 13 with our resident Max Cooper, Manchester's awesome D/R/U/G/S, Erased Tapes' amazing Rival Consoles, and our favourite joystep producer Enjoyed. There will be gadgets, lights, sub-bass and songs... MAX COOPER - LAUNCH PARTY FOR HIS REMIXES OF SOUNDTRACK COMPOSER MICHAEL NYMAN One of the Independent's "picks of the season's exciting new talent" and one of the UK's more diverse electronica artists, Max Cooper is also one of RA's top 100 DJs. His sets range back and forth across downtempo glitch to powerful dancefloor 4/4, and his remix of Erased Tapes' key instrumentalists Olafur Arnulds and Nils Frahm was XLR8R's 2nd most downloaded track of April. Max will close the night for us in a 3hr set that will move between live reworks of his own material and a more traditional DJ set of the work of others, including his remixes - the first ever approved - of multi-million-selling soundtrack composer Michael Nyman that will be released the monday before FIELDS - July 7. D/R/U/G/S [TENDER AGE / MOSHI MOSHI] "He clearly knows the formula to make ecstatic synth jams that effortlessly weave old school house and modern techno... perfect dancefloor material," said Dummy. D/R/U/G/S has toured with Squarepusher, Digitalism, did RBMA's amazing showcase on the London Eye, and his latest release on stonking Moshi Moshi imprint Tender Age has had raves from NME to Mixmag to the Pigeon Post, which described the EP as "travelling through early house sounds and ending up at a who-gives-a-fuck party. Sublime." Very happy about having D/R/U/G/S at the venue - yes, boom, tish - but actually, we've wanted him to play for a long, long time... RIVAL CONSOLES [ERASED TAPES] We've got a bit of a weakness at FIELDS for serious sound designers - the sort of people who build their own instruments and play challenging music to the art crowd at the Tate as well as rocking dancefloors. And Rival Consoles is right up there: he's performed with the Venetian Snares, Luke Vibert, Clarke; remixed Nico Muhly, Jon Hopkins, and been described by XLR8R as "a nascent IDM hero" and by DJ mag as having "reduced us to boogieing bones". His debut album on Erased Tapes was called "electro genius" by 6music and "one of the best releases on its kind this year" by Clash. Check out his facebook http://www.facebook.com/rivalconsoles for regular updates, strange and unusual sounds, and tips for building your own synth hardware. ENJOYED [LOAF / SHOES OFF] He's named after a Chemical Brothers B-side, he makes his own videos and EP covers based on the colours he sees in sounds, and draws his influences from 50s jazz to 90s techno, Steve Reich to the soundtrack to "Wicked". Memorably described by the Line of Best Fit as having changed "our narrowminded views on the ever-cringeworthy use of vocoders" and by the 405 blog as "unabashedly enjoyable", he's also responsible for one of the great baleric tracks of all time, Paws: http://vimeo.com/36354973. His new single, Teeth, was Guardian's track of the day, which said "one of Teeth's many charms is that it launches into a soaring chorus about a minute in and builds and builds with layers of vocals and Technicolor synths", and you can check out the video on TLOBF http://www.thelineofbestfit.com/videos/music-videos/watch-enjoyed-teeth-best-fit-premiere-97283 www.maxcooper.net/video.htm | http://www.facebook.com/drugsbeats | http://www.facebook.com/rivalconsoles | http://www.enjoyedmusic.com/ Friday July 13 @ Electrowerkz - one room plus chillout only. 7 Torrens Street London EC1V 1NQ. 10PM-6AM.
