- Hεllεctronic Festival 19 May -Skull Bar - Athens From 23:00 Till The Morning Comes 5 Greek Electronic Producers Together Sharing Their Personal Soundspaces With All Of You From Dub Tech To Deep Techno to Abstract Electronica From Breaks To Drum And Bass A Journey Into The Electronic Sound From The Talented Producers Ion (Live ) StrangeZero (Live) Resonant Status (Live) Cryogenics Junior Sp John Ov3rblast Dj Saint Louis -- ΙΟΝ Θεωρούμενος από τους πρωτοπόρους της εγχώριας ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής, ο Γιάννης Παπαϊωάννου ήταν ο ιδρυτής της πρώτης ανεξάρτητης δισκογραφικής εταιρείας ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής, της Elfish, ενώ οι συμμετοχές του σε ιστορικά συγκροτήματα όπως οι Rehearsed Dreams (κυκλοφόρησαν το άλμπουμ Repulsion στην Creep Records το 1985), οι Spider’s Web και οι Raw (και τα δύο συγκροτήματα κυκλοφόρησαν τα άλμπουμ τους στην Elfish), τον καθιέρωσαν ως ένα από τα πιο ενεργά πρόσωπα στην ελληνική ανεξάρτητη σκηνή. Από το 1996 και μετά τη διάλυση των Raw, ο Γιάννης Παπαϊωάννου συνέχισε τις ηχητικές του εξερευνήσεις ως ΙΟΝ, μετατρέποντας το laptop σε ένα μουσικό όργανο και φορητό στούντιο για τις live εμφανίσεις του. Μετά από μια σειρά techno κυκλοφοριών σε βινύλιο, το πρώτο άλμπουμ του ION, το «No Camera» (Κlik Records, 2005) απέσπασε εξαιρετικές κριτικές από τον εγχώριο και διεθνή Τύπο και χαρακτηριστικά το περιοδικό DJ έγραψε “post-techno minimalism never sounded so good”, ενώ με το επόμενο, το «You & Me» (Κlik Records, 2009) συνέχισε εμπνευσμένα ένα όραμα που μοιάζει να μην έχει όρια. Ταυτόχρονα ως live act και ως DJ έχει ντύσει με τις μουσικές του αμέτρητες νύχτες στα πιο γνωστά club, events και φεστιβάλ της ελληνικής dance σκηνής ενώ και οι πιο σπάνιες εμφανίσεις του στο εξωτερικό (Ολλανδία και Ρωσία) έχουν αφήσει τις καλύτερες εντυπώσεις για το project ION. To τελευταίο του ambient άλμπουμ «Elfish Tapes» (2010) παραμένει ένα λεπταίσθητο ambient κομψοτέχνημα, διαβρωμένο από τη μνήμη και την απώλεια. Χρησιμοποιώντας μαγνητοταινίες, φυσικούς ήχους, field recordings, παραδοσιακά ηλεκτρικά όργανα και φωνές που αφηγούνται την ιστορία ενός χαμένου κοριτσιού με το όνομα Elfish, o ION υπογράφει μια από τις κορυφαίες στιγμές της ελληνικής electronica. Χάρη στην κυκλοφορία των άλμπουμ «No Camera» και «Elfish Tapes» το περιοδικό STATUS συμπεριέλαβε τον ION στους Άντρες της Χρονιάς το 2005 και το 2010, στον τομέα των Ελλήνων συνθετών. At the age of 16 Cryogenics tried to make some tunes!Fastracker II was his first software! “Source Code” become very poppular in the Greek crowd! Source code jumped in the greek drum n bass top 20 (Life Fm) (No9) between great names at that time like Source Direct, Zinc, Hype, Dylan and many more! It was the year 1999 and Cryogenics had to join the army and he left from everything tll the year 2002. In 2004 Cryogenics was one of the best upcoming dj in Greece (“Free” Magazine). Cryogenics starts making tunes again and he has a new (production) project with Junior SP ! Klute, Amit, SKC, D Bridge are their main influences! Having a very good comments from big names such as LTJ Bukem, Goldie, Big Bud and Klute, they continue what they start… Also Cryogenics has a downtempo project (by the same alias).Influences by Dj Food,Portishead.Massive Attack,Herbalizer and many more. Then later at the early age of 15 he started going out in the rave parties outside of the city borders of Athens where he discovered the rave culture and clubbing and spend there many years. Started composing tracks using personal computers commodore, Amiga just for the fun of it. Using the turntables of a friend he started mixing his favorite flavors from the Detroit scene and taking part in private parties. His personal soundscapes is a mixture of ambient cinematic, twisted tech, deep dubby and spacey atmosphere, trying always to live a new experience through sound , a new hybrid ''Deeptech Spacedrone''. His first release came out from Mac Trax Netlabel on 2010 together with his 2 hour weekly live set on Mac-Trax webradio. Next step was the Spaceal Orbeats webradio which gave him the experience to organize the weekly shows and collaborate with more than 22 producers around the world .The webradio transformed in an independent digital Label on 2011 with Cristal Interspace and so far he is expanding his knowledge and his sound pallet in each new release. Focusing his taste and interest into all kinds of music involving breaks, he began collecting and spinning rare vinyl even for that time, in the early 90’s. While already DJing since 1992, his “official” career as a DJ and Promoter began in 1994, being a resident DJ and one of the co-founders of one of the most successful series of dance events in the Greek dance culture, called “Infinity”, based at the legendary club “Alsos”, mainly spreading out the sound of Drum ‘n’ Bass, which at that time was almost unknown for Greece. As a resident DJ at Infinity he had the chance of playing next to DJ’s like LTJ Bukem, Ray Keith and Doc Scott. Meanwhile, he developed a close co-operation and friendship with the – at that time – upcoming LTJ Bukem, with whom Infinity ended its life cycle in January 1996. Through the whole summer of the same year, Junior SP. also represented the top Greek party series, Sunrise Zone, as a resident DJ in its tour throughout Greece. In November 1996 there was the beginning of a new era, as Junior SP. created Innersense, with one and only goal; spreading out the sound of Drum ‘n’ Bass. Junior SP. has performed alongside the most important Drum ‘n’ Bass and Breaks artists worldwide, such as The Prodigy, Kosheen, Adam Freeland, LTJ Bukem, Goldie, Fabio, Grooverider, Photek, Randall, Doc Scott, Marcus Intalex, D-Bridge, Bryan Gee, Klute, J-Majik, Blame, Total Science, Utah Jazz and alongside the best D’n’B MC’s such as Conrad, Stamina, Darrison, Shylo, Deeizm, 2Shy. Through his Innersense events but also through a myriad of other parties to which Junior SP. has attended as a guest, Drum ‘n’ Bass has appeared to all the respective and recognizable Greek clubs. But the best was yet to come. Starting in November 2004 and concluding in June 2005, Junior SP. set out to establish Drum’n’Bass in Greece for good, presenting his monthly “Drum & Bass” events series, hosting sequentially : Fabio, Marcus Intalex, D-Bridge, Bryan Gee, Klute and saving the best for last…Ltj Bukem, MC Conrad and Junior SP. became the next artists ( after Tiesto on the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony ) to perform inside the Metropolis of The Olympic Games; The Athens Olympic Stadium (O.A.K.A.), as the opening act for the prestigious, worldwide broadcasted World Rally Championship Super Special Race held in Athens in June 2005, causing the media to turn their focus in this “strange accelerated beats music”. Having surpassed a decade as a Drum ‘n’ Bass dj and promoter, and looking stronger than ever at that point, Junior SP. set out to present new projects. One of them was his first attempt as a producer, through his collaboration with Milto eph, which concluded into a major contribution creating the “Timeless Playground” LP, released through the prestigious Greek label “Klik Records” in February 2005. Full of Rare Groove, Funk, Breakbeat, Trip Hop and of course Drum ‘n’ Bass, the album received the best reviews and was included in the Top 30 Albums of 2005 by “Pop & Rock” Greek magazine. Catching up in most recent history, the events just kept on coming…From early 2006 and up until today, he has hosted Fabio, Goldie, Randall, Doc Scott, SKC, Future Engineers, Makoto, Tayla, Nookie…An endless Drum’n’Bass list accompanied by top quality Breaks/Freestyle artists such as Adam Freeland, Joey Beltram, Bugz In The Attic, Kid Loco, Phil Asher, MixHell (Iggor Cavalera & Laima Leyton) either as “Innersense” or as “Funky! Earth Bar” which (did we forget to mention?) he co-owned during December 2005 – December 2009. His latest productions which saw the light of day were those for one of the best Greek Hardcore Hip Hop Artists, “Artemis” (co-founder of Terror X Crew and Artemis – Efthimis), included in his solo album entitled “Wolf-Shaped Lamb”, released in December 2011. Junior SP. is currently working on new projects with fellow producer “Cryogenics”, while keeping his ears open for a variety of collaborations.
