A landmark, showcase event from Hypercolour at the incredible Great Suffolk Street Warehouse and featuring 2 of the most iconic names in dance music.
For those in the know, Hypercolour has long been a purveyor of the finest in House & Techno, counting the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Huxley, Axel Bowman and Mosca amongst their number for some time now. However the eyes of the wider music world have recently fixed firmly on the small indie label, run by Jamie Russell and Alex Jones, as the mighty Groove Armada selected the imprint as the platform upon which to enter the next phase of their evolution and spark a dramatic reconnection with the underground.
"We wanted to take things right back to the beginning, so back to that warehouse sound, it’s been a while since we’ve been able to put out the white labels and that sort of stuff, because of contracts with the major label. We were keen to get back to that, and obviously we’ve been DJing so long that we’re on all the promo lists... and the one that was consistently coming through, with that 21st century take on the classic house sound, was Hypercolour. We were really digging them, so we gave the lads a ring and were like ‘bit of a weird request, but are you up for it?’†(Groove Armada in FACT magazine 2012)
This is a night to celebrate something rare and beautiful...the beginning of a new era and an aligning of the planets for what is certain to be the party of several lifetimes with an array of stars leading the dance, including the one and only genius that is Garage God, Todd Edwards.... flying in from the states to deliver an extremely rare set of his own work in the city that adopted him many years ago.
Joining Todd and the Groove Armada boys will be Brighton’s very own Maxxi Soundsystem. One of the fast rising stars on the scene, Maxxi’s forthcoming release on Hypercolour is set to raise the bar once again for the artist and the label.

GROOVE ARMADA (DJ set)
Over fifteen years Groove Armada has become established as one of the planet's best-loved and biggest selling dance acts. As comfortable on the big stages as they are in sweat soaked basements, the boys cross genres and styles with ease. Since the first GA parties in East London warehouses, the boys have been in the worlds best DJ booths for 15 years. 2012 and the GA DJ sound is the new focus. A Miami compilation featuring grooves from Nina Kravitz to Fingers Inc, captured a 21st century take on the original house sound. This is the vibe of the first EP, 'No Knock', released on the UK scene setting label hypercolour. Of the surprise signing to the tiny label, the boys said simply "We've never been interested in repeating ourselves".
Summer sees a return to their We Love Space Terrace residency, DJ shows from Ushuaia to Jakarta, closing and hosting arenas at IOW and Creamfields. On the big stages, GA take control of every aspect of the show from the sound to lighting, lasers and visuals from their custom built booth. 'We're both really excited about the summer' says Tom Findlay. 'sets at Space gives us a chance to play back to back the music we love, then with these bigger shows we think what we're doing, by taking in-booth control over every aspect of the show, is pretty unique right now. The DJing and flow is totally live, but the look and feel is super tight'.
TODD EDWARDS
House legend and Daft Punk collaborator Todd Edwards is known for his hypnotic collage of cut-up samples over swung beats and lively disco-flavored basslines. Credited as one of the godfathers of UK garage, his four to the floor beats have earned him a passionate following in Europe. In addition to his own legendary productions, Edwards has also remixed Justice, Phoenix, Klaxons, Hot Chip, Spank Rock, Boris, Appaloosa, Surkin, Robin S, Zoot Woman, St. Germain, and Dimitri From Paris. Edwards also co-produced, co-wrote, and sang on the Daft Punk song "Face to Face" on their 2001 album Discovery.
This will be a rare London appearance for “Todd the God†and is sure to bring his cult following out en mass to witness an extended set in a genuine warehouse setting
MAXXI SOUNDSYSTEM
Before the runaway success of club hit ‘Criticize’ which exploded everywhere at the beginning of 2011 from Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show to being featured on Beats in Space Best of 2010 Sam Watts had been DJing, putting on parties and working hard in his studio for a number of years in his home town of Brighton.
His follow up single was the first track on Nurvous Records (a new label from NYC legendary label Nervous Records), the track Open Your Eyes on Jamie Jones Hot Waves label and recent EP on needwant records has seen huge support from Radio1’s Jaymo & Andy George (who put him in their Future Stars of 2012 show) and DJs across the board from Maceo Plex, Danny Daze, Tensnake, Morgan Geist and Aeroplane to Tiefschwarz, Groove Armada and Sasha. Remixes in 2011 have also been flying out for the like of Hercules & Love Affair, The 2 Bears and Parallel Dance Ensemble the latter which hit the #1 spot on Beatport’s indie dance chart. Maxxi Soundsystem has already toured extensively in 2011 taking in Glastonbury, Glade Festival, Creamfields, Sankeys Manchester, Flux Leeds, Disco Bloodbath, Rex Club Paris, Athens and Fabric; proving he can rock any dancefloor that’s put in front of him; playing a set made up of his own edits and remixes plus music plucked from his 8 years experience playing in clubs.
ALEX JONES
The co-creator of the influential Hypercolour/Glass Table/Losing Suki labels, Alex Jones is a name that is rightly associated with unerring quality regardless of genre boundaries. A sharp wit and refusal to take life too seriously is contrasted by a cast iron reputation within electronic music that has seen the East-Londoner play the world over and release on some of the most lauded labels around.
As a producer, Jones takes huge risks – combining disparate sounds and grooves into tracks that achieve a rare characteristic in most house and techno, uniqueness. His off kilter, sometimes challenging but always enduring output has seen him release for XL Recordings, No.19, Turbo, Glimpse and Kindisch while releases for his beloved Hypercolour continue to impress critics and fans alike.
CEDRIC MAISON
Alongside Alex, Cedric (also known as the extremely lovable Jamie Russell) is founder of Hypercolour. Playing a fundamental role in the evolution of the label, its sound and its direction. This landmark showcase is testament to his genius in steering the ship towards the open waters of industry wide recognition as one of the leading lights in the underground scene worldwide.
