  • Stacy Kidd started DJing at 15, inspired by the music being played across the airwaves in his town of Chicago. Using two basic tape decks and tracks recorded off the radio, he honed his mixing skills, graduating a couple of years later to playing vinyl on a turntable with pitch control - "It was quite easy because I had already been doing it without a pitch on the tape decks, so having a turntable with one made it easier for me". In 1990 Stacy was invited to a play at a house party where he met Paul Johnson. "I was playing a lot of unknown tracks that I had got my hands on from other producers like Ron Hardy, DJ Rush, Armando and Farley JM Funk.. When I started playing, Paul approached me as he had some tracks that were also unknown and we started comparing music. I would drop a track and then he would, back’n'forth, and it went on for two hours like that. After that we hung out every day working on music together and in 1994 I did my first record with Paul on Dance Mania Records called 'Stacy Kidd & Pilly P Doing Thangs Vol 1'". Stacy released two more volumes in the series with Paul, and in 1996 released his first solo recording '15213 Loomis'. In 1997, Stacy started travelling with Paul Johnson playing at parties all over the world. "Now this was new to me and I was loving it, so I ended up focussing on trying to produce more club style music, as it seemed to be what all the people out of town were loving". This change in direction resulted in productions on some of the world's most respected house music record labels including Dusttraxx, Aftermidnight, Riviera, Moody, Yellorange, Tilted, MoS, Basement Boys and Classic Recordings. In 2002, Stacy started his own production company Underground Elements with vocalists Joi Williams and Matthew Yates and producer/DJ's Tim Funatik, Melvin Meeks, Scott Payne, and Ice Mike Lataker. Stacy was recognised last year as a versatile, up and coming house producer by DJ Magazine and soon after joined Louie Vega and Kenny Dope (MAW) on their "Kenlou" Label. Threaded through his hectic production schedule, Stacy continues to DJ around the globe, his performance at Tank will mark his first visit to Sydney, where he will deliver the deep, funky, vocal house sounds for which his productions have become renowned.
