Three years ago, Tom Headfunk shipped a £50 soundsystem into a bar with the least friendly landlady ever, whilst a number of drunken people turned up, danced and threw beer on the floor. Somehow this formula, although a little tweaked and with a change of venue, has continued to make people smile, dance and hug. To this end, we present the Headfunk 3rd Birthday Party in association with Ryde Arts Festival 2012.
This also marks the dawn of a new age as we bring in a second soundsystem to The Blacksheep to take over the upstairs bar as well as the cellar.
So lots more excitement and double the musical mayhem!
We are delighted to have made it to three years of Headfunk and want to have as big a party as possible so we have a load of our favourite DJs from the last three years coming to join us. With serendipitous timing it also happens to be the final day of Ryde Arts Festival and they want to come and celebrate with us as well, so we are also the closing party for this annual art jamboree.
So, upstairs…starting from 9pm, now named Cocktails and Carnivals will always featured DJs playing Funk, Soul, Reggae, Hip Hop, Dancehall…basically slower-paced groove material. For the opening night we have four acts playing. First up, of course, will be be Headfunk lynchpin Tom who is looking forward to digging out some quality vinyl for the occasion. Following him will be old Headfunk friends playing under their old moniker for the last time…Elmo&Beavz. Next up, mistress of Vinyl and IOW Festival veteran Missi Strut before closing upstairs will be Funkmaster supreme Josh 'Smutty' Brown.
And so to downstairs…once again the opening set comes from Tom Headfunk, who will be rewinding through 3 years of music for a Headfunk Classics set (Wile Out, We Are The People and Another Girl locked and loaded!). Following Tom will be an artist more usually found creating beautiful soundscapes as a recording artist but who also loves to make people dance - Puzzle Muteson. He will be dropping a rare DJ set sure to be packed with re-edits and classic dancing material.
Headliners for the night are old friends who have been on a fantastic journey in the last few years, of which Headfunk has played a small part in…The Playground Syndicate. They will be playing a final set before they jet off to headline the Suba Stage at Exit Festival in Serbia. Bass in your face, AV/DJ synchronised spectacular…
The last hour will be given over to a vinyl-only showdown as anyone who has played at Headfunk in the last 3 years has been invited to join our multi-headed back-to-back monster The Headfunk DJ Allstars for the last hour.
Our resident visuals master AV Circus will be doing his usual brilliant thing downstairs and we are delighted that A Higher Sound continue to provide us with a quality soundsystem (now x2!).
