Culture Tech will play host to the debut performance of a unique collaboration between traditional Irish vocalist Grainne Holland and electronic producer Figure of 8. The audiovisual set will be accompanied by surreal visuals cast over three screens and a live string quartet courtesy of Prima String Quartet.
The idea behind the collaboration was to really modernise Irish language in song and make it accessible to non Irish speakers through the music. Thematically and melodically this will be unlike anything ever attempted before using the Irish language.
The music for the performance takes a wide range of influences across the vast ,ever expanding, genres of modern dance music, from disco, garage, acid house, traditional North African rhythms, to the cinematic synth scores of Vangelis and John Carpenter.
Gráinne Holland, from West Belfast is a fresh talent in the Irish traditional music circuit with amazing vocal strength and beauty. A regular festival performer, Gráinne has impressed audiences at many of Europe’s premier folk events and venues including Celtic Connections in Glasgow, The National Concert Hall in Dublin, Rompeolas Festival in San Sebastian, Féile an Phobail, The London Irish Centre and The William Kennedy Piping Festival among many others.
Figure of 8 aka Dermot McGowan, a solo producer of throbbing electronic music based in Belfast. In the first 6 months of the project’s inception he has already supported International Electronic artists 2 many DJs, The 2 Bears and The Japanese popstars, had releases on several reputable labels, radio play worldwide from as far afield as Vancouver to Jakhartha, and an underground smash debut single that is still making waves across the blogosphere.
The members of Prima String Quartet have accompanied world reknowed artists Lady Gaga, Belle and Sebastian, Everything Everything, West Life and Kanye West and have appeared on stage at Ireland’s Meteor Music Awards, The Late Late Show, The Royal Variety Show 2009 and The X Factor 2010.As well as accompanying Grainne Holland and Figure of 8, Prima Quartet will also play a special set to start the event featuring exciting new arrangements of popular artists including Daft Punk, The Cinematic Orchestra, Radiohead and Muse

Now that he has come to the point in his life where he wants to share his music with the world. This year will see him have tracks and EP's on quality labels like AUS Music, House of Disco, Needwant, Kolour, Saint & Sonnets,Tusk Wax and Extended Play records. Experimenting with many genres like disco,garage,deep house and techno his trademark vocal driven emotive sound flows in all of his productions.
