Popgun presents FM Attack (Live), French Horn Rebellion

  • We're ludicrously excited to bring you this doozy of a show: funky synth-king FM Attack will be playing with support from a very groovy, very fresh DJ set by electropop veterans French Horn Rebellion! Don't miss this amazing lineup! Dance your heart out! -FM ATTACK- http://soundcloud.com/fm-attack Shawn Ward (a.k.a. FM Attack) was originally discovered and signed by Tiga where he released on Turbo Recordings, a label that has released artists including Moby, Chromeo, Boys Noize, D.I.M., and Popof. His unique deep, funky house production was soon sought after, and Shawn went on to release a number of successful EPs on labels worldwide such as DIY Discs, Flat & Round, Tweekin, Polyphonics, Memorabilia, Fair Park and Tonite Recs. His music has been remixed by the likes of Spirit Catcher, Jori Hulkonnen, Joey Youngman, and has been charted and supported by legends such as Mark Farina, Little Louie Vega, Laurent Garnier, Timmy Regisford and Kevin Saunderson. Shawn has kept busy DJ’ing and touring the globe, rocking clubs and parties in Sweden, UK, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. Inspired by 80’s synth pop, disco, new wave music and a love for analog synths, Shawn created his alias FM Attack and released the debut album "Dreamatic" in 2009 on Tonite Records. The album was received with critical acclaim, leading to remixes for artists including Pnau, Edwin Van Cleef, Super Mal, Sally Shapiro, Tesla Boy and Trans-X FM Attack recently signed a worldwide publishing deal with Chrysalis Music and is currently working on a new album and touring. -FRENCH HORN REBELLION- http://frenchhornrebellion.com/ French Horn Rebellion (Robert and David Perlick-Molinari) kick off 2011 by announcing the US self-release of their debut album ‘The Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion’ on April 19th digitally and May 24th physically (Once Upon A Time Records) and a 27 date North American tour supporting French electro pop outfit Yelle starting 17th April. Written, produced and mixed by Robert and David, ‘The Infinite Music…’ is a debut album that warps the fabric of dance, electro, rock and funk and may just turn out to be a contender for this year’s most ambitious, multi-faceted and engaging debut album. Crucially, the album also follows an intergalactic narrative that tracks the physical and emotional journey of an unknown French Horn player. “There is a story running through the album, it’s about the Universe. We’re pretty clear on what the story is, but what you take away from it may be something entirely different,” says David. The album’s artwork features the sculptures of Portland based artist Meredith Dittmar (www.corporatepig.com) who the band contacted after finding her work on the Internet. Dittmar has exhibited in New York and as far afield as, Mexico City and Istanbul. On the back of just three EP’s to date, these two unassuming brothers, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have already toured and played with the likes of Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, The Drums, Cut Copy and SebastiAn and have been tipped by everyone from Q Magazine, The Guardian, Time Out and French music bible Les Inrockuptibles to hometown publications such as The New York Times and NY Daily News. The Brooklyn-based duo already had an illustrious pedigree; David produced MGMT's indie release, Time to Pretend EP for New York indie Cantora Records, and with previous single “Up All Night” they scored a Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1 and an opening slot on the influential Kitsuné Maison compilation series; a big deal for a virtual unknown. The band have also remixed the likes of MEN, Two Door Cinema Club, OMD and Alex Winston, the later resulting in JPlatt of New York producers du jour The Knocks madly tweeting “its like the hottest thing I’ve ever heard”! Following packed out NYC performances at CMJ, the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival and in support to MNDR at the launch of new Neon Gold party POPSHOP, March saw a whistle stop European tour and a packed itinerary at SXSW. FHR now head east for their first ever Asian tour including shows in Hong Kong (w/ MGMT), Singapore, South Korea and China. Their 27-date North American tour supporting Yelle kicks off in Phoenix on 17th April. -AIMES- (DJ Set) http://www.aimesmusic.com/ AIMES is the production moniker and musical alter ego of Alabama born, Brooklyn resident, Aman Ellis. Aman entered into the world of electronic music almost by mistake. After years of searching for his sound on the guitar, many of which involved him trying to make his guitar sound like a synthesizer, he opted to trade the two. Now armed with a plethora of gadgets and toys, Aman spends his time bridging the divide between the organic tones of his past and the lush oscillations in his present. His adventuresome style of synth-wave space pop explores vast sonic territories, keeping a close affinity to other-worldly psychedelia and interstellar weirdness.
