  • On October 8, Gold Panda’s Notown label will release Brothers Fowl, the debut album by Dam Mantle and we are hosting the official launch party. Dam Mantle is the moniker of Tom Marshallsay; the reflective, Glasgow-incumbent artist and electronic producer whose debut album ‘Brothers Fowl' is the culmination of a long and varied musical path. Marshallsay has an entirely evident unabashed enthusiasm for sound; he delights in experimentation and creation, producing myriads of ideas. Releases have ranged from the other-worldly chamber orchestration found in his ‘Grey EP’ the menacing, electronic-infused hip hop of the ‘Purple Arrow EP’, or the joyfully eclectic bedlam of his ‘We EP’ release. ‘Brothers Fowl’ sees Mantle turning another corner, building the record with a similar palette of sounds and rhythms but bringing a noir-ish ambience to proceedings. It’s his most fully-realised statement and a fine culmination of the last three years of activity. Brothers Fowl sees him step up in a major way: the melodies and hooks here are his strongest by some distance, breezing over, around and ultimately enveloping the gently chugging house pulses like nights into dreams. Joining Dam Mantle are Becoming Real, Grampian Mountains and a special guest, who will be revealed on the day of the event. London producer Becoming Real has forged his own unique path, making music music that flirts with a range of tempos and feels, from maudlin slow house to hyperactive grime, but always shot through with the angular, ghostly melodics that characterise his sound. Releases on Cold World Industries, Not Even & RAMP have solidified his sound and made massive fans of contemporaries such as Gold Panda, DJ Rashad & Flying Lotus while taste making press people FACT Magazine and Fader can't get enough of his 'idiosyncratic mutant soul music'. Grampian Mountains is the Glasgow based sound and visual design studio based, responsible for some of the most refined and awkwardly inclusive DJ sets, mix-tapes, club artwork and radio shows to emerge from Glasgow in recent years. His Subcity Radio show has grown into one the most popular on the ever relevant Glasgow station and his DJ sets reflect a tasteful, considered and brilliantly realised approach to his DJ sets that set him apart as one of the best in town. We also have a secret special guest DJ set to finish off the night, the details of which will be announced on the day. Let's just say, if you opt not to go, you'll stay home disappointed.
