Sydney Festival: Paradiso - Picnic presents Darshan Jesrani & Daniel Wang

  • For our third Sydney Festival party we're going for the trifecta. Having snagged four of our favourite DJs on the planet for the last two, we've managed to grab hold of a couple of guys who are right at the very top of that list: Darshan Jesrani and Daniel Wang! Two absolute masters of new-era disco who have a rung all to themselves way up the ladder of DJs who can send crowds into a state of utter frenzy and tremendous joy. All this is going down inside Town Hall, which is being transformed into Paradiso throughout SydFest and, by all accounts, will trump Hyde Park Barracks as the dancing hub of the festival. Darshan has had an immeasurable impact on today's disco scene. Alongside production partner Morgan Geist, together known as Metro Area, he was critical in shaping the genre's revival in the early 2000s, and the legendary output of the duo is still as incredibly influential, cutting edge and downright awesome as it ever was. The fact that their mind-blowing track "Miura" came in at #1 on Resident Advisor's Top 100 tracks of the decade is a testament to just how next-level their music is. Flying solo, Darshan has come out with a string of superb remixes for the likes of Tracey Thorn, Escort and Nina Kraviz, while original material is due this year on his new Startree imprint. He actively DJs in his home city of New York and frequents the world's top clubs, sharing his outstanding collection of rare, classic and sometimes obscure vinyl cuts, doing so with as much skill and experience as just about anybody in the business. Darshan is one of the scene's true innovators who only gets better as the years go by. Where to begin with Daniel Wang? He's the man behind the quirky and brilliant Balihu Records. His 2001 album 'Idealism', released on Morgan Geist's Environ imprint, is as fresh and influential as it was a decade ago. His impact on the disco scene from the mid-'90s until now has been momentous. His legendary DJ sets have delighted and inspired countless dancefloors around the world, as has his positive energy and unbridled enthusiasm for giving people a good time. His music - both as a producer and a performer - is playful, adventurous, calculated, sometimes obscure and ALWAYS fun. In recent years, Danny hasn't spent much time outside of Berlin, where he still treats the locals to his notoriously energetic and euphoric DJ sets. It's a rare opportunity to see such a talented, well-loved and down to earth performer play in the faraway land of Oz, let alone on stage at Sydney's Town Hall. He's a true modern day hero of disco. Support will be in the form of Picnic's Kali and Andy Webb. Tickets available from the Sydney Festival website for the low low price of $36. Doors open at 8pm. http://www.sydneyfestival.org.au/2013/Music/Picnic-Darshan-Jesrani-Metro-Area-Daniel-Wang-Paradiso-at-Town-Hall/
