From the seminal opening scene to the enigmatic finale, Stanley Kubrick‟s sci-fi classic 2001: A Space Odyssey remains inextricably connected to its soundtrack. Traditional narrative is replaced by the emotional power of classical music by Ligeti, Khachaturian, Richard Strauss and Johann Strauss. This screening of the recently restored film is accompanied by a live performance of the original score by Sydney Symphony and Sydney Philharmonic Choir conducted by André de Ridder, who also took the helm for the world première at London‟s Southbank Centre and Holland Festival.
