Pressure 14th Birthday

  • Pressure 14th Birthday The Arches, Glasgow 30th November 11pm – 5am £20 adv Slam Green Velvet Maya Jane Coles Paul Ritch (Live) Norman Nodge DJ Yoda Vitamins Animal Farm Slam are proud to welcome you to the 14th anniversary of their esteemed club, Pressure @ The Arches. An all-star and eclectic line-up highlights the diversity of the club night over its legacy at the Arches. Slam Radio launched a few weeks ago and has featured mixes from Pan-Pot, Christian Smith, ROD and of course, slam themselves. Upcoming mixes include Regis, Clouds & Kyle Geiger. Slam also visit Japan, Porto, Stuttgart, Hamburg & Fabric London this month. Release-wise Slam have their next Paragraph coming soon, “Slam vs Mike Dearborn – 1991 (Slam 2012 Remake)”. Green Velvet (aka Cajmere) is one of the biggest characters in electronic music. Label owner of two of Chicago's most respected labels, Relief and Cajual Records and producer of some of the most recognisable tracks in techno, Green Velvet delicately balances musical creativity, adventurousness and fun while keeping an eye firmly on the dancefloor. In 2012 his classic material has been remixed by the likes of Phil Kieran, Jamie Jones and even a unreleased version remix of 'Flash' by Slam. This year he has also featured on and remixed tracks on Modular and Great Stuff Recordings. Frenchman Paul Ritch, label owner of Quartz Records, has made many appearance at Pressure over the last few years. As an artist that only plays live, he tweaks his set for every performance maximising the energy and dynamic that his productions are famous for. Parisian techno producer and Cocoon Heroes resident Paul Ritch's enters into the Green & Blue mix series in October. It marks change of pace from the usual double-disc, double-DJ mix format: Live at Green & Blue's 10th Anniversary comes as a single CD with Ritch playing live. Half of his inclusions are previously unreleased. 2012 was a big year for Maya Jane Coles in Ibiza. The White Island saw Maya doing a DJ set live streamed as part of the BBC Radio 1 Ibiza Weekender, playing Cocoon @ Amnesia with Sven Vath, Luciano at Ushuaia, All Gone Pete Tong at Pacha and at both Enter and Kehakuma Space with the likes of Richie Hawtin, Magda and Grimes. MJC also won the 'Staff Pick Artist of the Year' at the Beatport 2012 awards. Earlier this year the native Londoner also made her commercial mix debut with the acclaimed 'DJ Kicks' series. In the last 12 months Maya Jane has remixed artists like Phil Kieran, Florence and the Machine and Tom Middleton, and has released massive tracks on Mobilee, Hypercolour, K7 and Heidi presents Jackathon Jams. Berghain resident Norman Nodge presents the sixth instalment in the club's mix series. Since 2005 Norman has played the Berghain floor once a month and has become an integral part of the Berghain crew. In the meantime he has produced several releases under his own name on Marcel Dettmannʼs MDR Label and on Ostgut Ton. As a DJ he combines classic Detroit and UK techno with Chicago house and a lot of new material, never afraid to go for the more unusual sounds, away from current trends and always putting a mixture of softer and harder styles into one set. All in all the Mix, which was recorded live at Berghain, is a perfect reflection of the Norman Nodge way of djing and also a document of what you can expect to hear from a resident at the club. Previous DJs to feature in the series include Marcel Fengler, Andre Galluzzi, Marcel Dettmann, Len Faki and Ben Klock. Norman will make his Arches debut at the Pressure birthday where you can expect a taste of Berlin in the cavernous club. Party-starter, DJ Yoda's, new double A-side single, Idiot featuring scene larrikins Man Like Me sums up the rabid eclecticism of his forthcoming album with this dancefloor banger, a festival favourite with a video filmed at this year's Bestival. You can watch this video here. His new album Chop Suey arrives in stores on 5th November. Explaining the concept behind the album and its title, DJ Yoda states that “the chop suey dish was created by Chinese immigrants in the States, trying to recreate their food from whatever was available. And that’s my approach to hip hop. I use found records, samples, vocalists I have access too, whatever I can to make something new.”  Local Heroes Vitamins and Animal Farm will be providing the support.
