"DARK PLEASURES"
Earlier this summer I found myself at literally the craziest party I had ever been to - "World Unknown" in Brixton London, at a reggae club hidden under a train arch. At 5 am, the room was sweaty, superfogged, almost pitch black and jammed with sexy people all dancing, eyes closed & ecstatic to an throbbing gamut of unrecognizable acid, heavy funk, Belgian nu beat, trance, industrial, italo and techno. The two DJs – Joe Hart and Andy Blake - trade off all night & also run a label of the ...
same name, and their badass aesthetic made me determined to bring at least one of them to NYC. So I'm super excited that Joe Hart is flying out here from London to do a 3-hour vinyl-only set, and Mutual Dreaming will do our best to live up to the madness of his parties by properly setting the vibe!! Joining is Providence-based post-noise rager Container, who's house-tinged, beyond-raw groovebox live sets have earned quite a reputation in both techno and art circles alike. Also playing live is new italo-esque Brooklyn group DUST, joined by Jared Spafford, who manipulates drum machines to control tons of strobes, lasers & other lights, diy style. Finally we have DJ Jan Woo, my favorite cosmic crate digger. This one will be VERY DEEP, do not miss!!
JOE HART
1/2 of label & soon-to-be legendary London dance night World Unknown, Joe also runs Chicago-jack club night Body Hammer. "Throbbing music for throbbing people" is the theme of WU - dark, ecstatic, and super diverse. From Dummy: "They send the crowd falling down a rabbit hole entirely of their own shaping: old acid house, EBM and early ‘80s European dance records that hardly anyone owns all make their way into the kind of mix you wouldn’t get in many other places." He's coming all the way from London just for this.. get ready.

CONTAINER
Conainter is the raw, ripping dance project of Nasvhille's Ren Schofield, who was originally rooted in the noise-scene. Resident Advisor wrote in their 'Breaking Thru' feature: “Schofeld's vinyl debut under the Container alias has turned out to be one of the more lauded techno albums of 2011. Released on John Elliott's thriving Spectrum Spools imprint, its crunchy beats, low-tech decay and fist-pumping zeal have struck a chord with an electronic dance music scene that is once again craving techno that is hard, heavy and elemental."
There's a legend around this guy's live sets and I personally witnessed it in Riga at the Skanu Mezs festival earlier this month. He uses a single Yamaha groovebox pushed to the limit - and the result is captivatingly frantic & danceable. Cant wait for this!

DUST
Psychedelic italo/acid house/EMB- inspired hardware project of John Barclay (the promoter behind TripHouse & Midnight Express, who actually first opened 285 Kent a few years ago), model Angela Chambers, Korean noise artist Greem Jellyfish, and Michael Sherbern. This is one of their first major live shows in NYC.. and they're doing an A/V set, joined by lighting madman Jared Spafford.

JAN WOO
One of the deepest and most creative DJs I know, and an avid digger of strange & wonderful boogie/funk/disco/techno. He's also the slapbass & MPC expert in BK band Splash.
Cheap bar.
