A Berlin Valentine with Camea

  • Friday, February 15th, as a Valentine treat to Nashville, Berlin & Something Wicked Productions welcome you to a special soiree with DJ and recording artist Camea (Click Recordings, Spectral, from Berlin, Germany), one of the hottest talents in electronic music today. In just a short time, Camea has gone from being one of the few lonely souls pushing the minimal and micro-house sound in the United States to one of the matrons and ambassadors of its phenomenal wave around the globe. Her style has been described as "Seattle cool meets Brooklyn edge...a funky-sexy blend of groovy house and techno-pop, a little bit dirty and a lot danceable" (www.dj-list.com) and certainly she has managed to garner a wide ear for a new techno sound, making it hip and giving it a starlet in the process. Though she moved to Berlin last year, she has made a distinct mark on the "new" New York techno scene, playing at the best parties and venues there, among them Avalon, Cielo, Wolf & Lamb, Bunker, APT, Minimoo and Crobar. We are happy to have her here in Nashville on this limited U.S. tour before her upcoming performances in cities around the globe, including Bogota, Rome, Stuttgart, Zurich, Brussels and Berlin. Camea will have support from Coalition of the Killing (Auralism Records, San Francisco), who will visit Nashville for the first time with a special live computer and machine-generated performance. The unified alter ego of Jason Short and Marc Smith (aka Mr. Malfunction), Coalition of the Killing is the flagship of the recently launched San Francisco label Auralism Records. Having met in Florida's progressive-house scene in 1999, Short and Smith fused their mutual love for otherworldly head trips and steel-toed synths into a longstanding collaborative relationship. An electrically charged amalgamation of crunchy rattling percussion and cauterizing analog sound, COTK's off-balance productions are ideally meant for a party where the floorboards aren't quite level and the walls could collapse at any time. Camea & Coalition of the Killing will join locals Oliver Dodd (Live PA), DJ Woody, John Napier, Pete Kay and Shawn Egan for an intimate night of techno and minimal delicacies at the newly managed and renovated nightclub Elevation (1907 Division St., formerly known as Code Blue). The doors open at 9:00 pm (18+). Admission is $12, $10 reduced admission for those who signup by emailing their names for the guestlist at [email protected].
