We are very excited to be having New York City's Ron Morelli in Toronto on February 23rd for our first event at the Black Box Theatre.
Ron founded and runs the Brooklyn based L.I.E.S. record label (Long Island Electrical Systems), which has released a ton of great music in the last couple of years. Music from the likes of Steve Summers, Legowelt, Xosar, Bookworms, Delroy Edwards and Steve Moore to name a few. Though all toting very different styles, tempos and sonic palettes, the label's roster seems unified by a collective force aiming to be both emotional and adventurous in creating machine music that goes beyond just making you want to move.
It's pretty clear that Ron isn't one for gimmicks. If his recent RA podcast or Beats in Space playlist aren't enough of an indication, his 3 hour journey through both the fringes of house and techno and the well worn classics, record at Concrete in Paris, certainly makes it obvious that his crate was assembled over the course of years or decades, not weeks or months.
The two of us (Jeremy Sean & Book) are opening up the evening, and the event will also feature a video installation by Georgina Walker to serve as a compliment to the night's music.
This will be a dance party, but we hope that anyone who enjoys interesting new music will find it a comfortable space to be themselves and meet new people. Hope to see you there!
