We offer you a retrospective look into the history of house this March, with classy Detroit luminary Marcellus Pittman, and one of the contemporary game's brightest stars, German selector Tama Sumo
Rewind! When other children were playing with G.I. Joe action figures in the early 80’s, Detroit native Marcellus 'Malik' Pittman was playing his radio at maximum volume, listening to Hip Hop, Jazz and Funk, enticed and inspired by the possibilities of music.
By the time the early nineties came about he was DJing in and around the Motor City, and had begun producing, but his musical career didn't properly hit 5th gear until he formed a working relationship with Rick Wilhite, Theo Parrish and Moodymann. Together they formed 'The 3 Chairs', a supremely talented quartet who helped to define an integral part of the Detroit sound as production artists and selectors.
As a producer Pittman 'The Hit Man' does the business too, check his excellent releases on Sound Signature and FXHE, not to mention his own imprint Unirhythm. With gigs everywhere from The States to Europe to Japan, Malik takes his smooth blend of sultry house right the way round the globe, but this will be his first ever appearance in Leeds. He's in for a huge welcome!
And to shut the party down, we welcome back a DJ who is fast becoming one of our absolute favourites: Tama Sumo. The Panoramabar resident is a connoisseur of house and techno, grooving eighties disco and edgy electro. The last time she was over she warmed up for Ricardo and Zip in Mint Warehouse, and has more recently played Fabric and Rex Club amongst others.
With part of Louche now based in Berlin, we've had several chances to go and witness Kerstin in her element, on home turf up in P Bar on a Sunday afternoon. Every time we see her she totally steals the show with her scintillating, emotionally charged sets. To consistently be the stand out DJ in probably the best club in the world is no coincidence, yes, she really is that good!
