Colony & Scand Bank Holiday Special

  • After a rollicking two years of packed bank holiday Sundays at Rhythm Factory, we recently came to find out, pretty much by accident, that the club no longer wanted us, and that our long-booked 2013 fixtures had been all but, ahem, liquidated. Not good, not good at all (promoters beware). Our solution, though, is simple: move the whole operation to the best club in town and put on the best C&S yet. How about that? Stepping up for the occasion, and making his joint Colony/Corsica debut in the process, is none other than James Ruskin, a man we've come to regard as a true ally over the past few years, kindly inviting us to host the second space at his heaving Blueprint nights and giving us free rein on our guests for the purposes. Respect. It was only a matter of time before we reciprocated and invited him down our ends, and with a peak-time slot on Corsica's humming room 1 rig crying out for a figure of his calibre, this had to be the one. We could go on and on about his productions (dating all the way back to '95), his label (founded a year later and going stronger than ever) and his 20 year+ DJ career (nuff said), but we won't - just come down and dance your nut(s) off. And while you're at it, give it some to Svreca, too. Tonight's second guest, he flies in from Madrid to show us all why he's rapidly becoming one of the European underground's most respected DJs. Owner and curator of the frequently blinding Semantica imprint - home to the likes of Surgeon, Silent Servant and E.R.P. - he'll be dropping a dark, challenging selection of cutting edge techno and electronica not dissimilar, we hope, to the classy set that put us onto him at Bleep43's return party last year. Another man firmly on the up, and a regular for us over recent times, is Ø [Phase]. His star continues to rise with tight EP after tight EP on Token and, most recently, a pounding RA podcast that once again shows off his frightening, vinyl-driven DJ skills. With a tasty pair of Rob Hood remixes about to drop on Music Man, he's clearly firing on all cylinders right now, and we're in no mood to halt the momentum! Keeping things firmly tough and funky, Ireland's Lee Holman - whose self-released Kawl material and sterling work for Mowar over the years has consistently impressed - is jetting over from County Wexford for a full hardware live PA, which promises to (a) sound fat as fuck, and (b) fuck with your head; he's someone we've had our eye on for quite a while now and we're delighted to be getting him back to London for the first time in 5-odd years. Support comes from Colony regulars Tengui and CB, going deep for the early doors massive. Bringing Scand to what's surely its best-suited space to date, meanwhile, Cultivated Electronics' Sync 24 has put together another killer line-up of weapon grade electro for room 2, headlined by Paris vet The Hacker, who, with a decade of caning releases behind him and a mob of fans around the world, is dropping in to play 100% (you guessed it) electro in the vane of his tough, rolling early material. Joining him, Rephlex badman DMX Krew plays live - which means all kinds of raw, flexing hardware madness - and Si Brown aka Dexorcist rocks up for a punishing trip into the darkside. Also live, Sync 24 will be showcasing the kind of stripped, trippy sounds that have seen his recent World Electronix EPs garner widespread praise, whilst Scand regulars Innume, agent2 and Steve Allman keep it strictly vinyl and consistently jumping for the purists and party nuts alike. We're delighted to be taking this series to our beloved Corsica, a club that continues to lead the way with its sound, programming and vibe. What's traditionally been a free/filthy-cheap event remains, we hope, 100% affordable, with advance tickets starting at five pounds and door cover a modest tenner. And what's built up with a vengeance at Rhythm will, we're sure, hit harder and ring truer than ever at the place we - and pretty much all the local rave cats we know - call home. Bring it on. [-]
