4our Events & Shrug present Luke Hess (Live, Detroit) & XDB (Germany)

  • Coming together in a marriage of like minded music and ideals, 4our & Shrug join forces this Easter to celebrate the special bond that is the mutual love & respect between two of electronic music’s most dedicated proponents. These artists exude a certain quality of music, yet have more than just a casual relationship with each other - both have had mixes featured on highly influential techno blog mnml ssgs. The pairing of Detroit's Luke Hess and Germany's XDB is the perfect musical matchmaking. Luke Hess (Detroit / FXHE / Planet-e / DeepLabs / Echocord) Hailing from what many would consider the birthplace of techno music, Luke Hess has been one of the mainstays in the Detroit techno scene for over 10 years. To highlight the respect that his talent deserves Hess’ first promotional CD mix was released on Detroit’s famous Underground Resistance label. His productions soon gained the attention of techno luminaries such as Carl Craig and Omar S, who has featured several of Hess' releases on his label FXHE, including the amazing full length album, “Keep On”, in 2012. Hess’s productions and in turn his live set that he is bringing to Australia, feature a vast array of forward thinking techno ranging from his more upfront Detroit influenced sounds all the way to his renowned hypnotic dub techno sensibilities (the likes of which have featured on his EPs on Echocord, Deeplabs and alongside Australia’s Echo Inspectors on their new label Primary Colours). XDB (Germany / Dolly / Metrolux / Sistrum) XDB is the personification of an artist who prefers to let his music do the talking. With a record collection that numbers over 5000 and counting, this is one of Germany's ‘secret weapons’ that most Antipodeans rarely get to experience in a club setting. Being a regular feature on the line ups for both Berghain & Panorama bar is all the proof you need to know that XDB is at the top of his game. XDB’s DJ sets come alive on the edge between timeless techno and organic house, and it's here that he lives up to his reputation as an historian of electronic music with an incredible wealth of musical knowledge. His productions take the same approach with heavy, raw, analog sounds and soulful atmospheres. XDB has more than a passing knowledge of techno’s relationship between its current home, Berlin, and its birthplace, Detroit; one of the best examples of this deep understanding would be his release “Espac” on Detroit luminary Patrice Scott's label Sistrum in 2008. XDB also launched his own label, Metrolux Music, 2006, as a platform for releases without fear of any creative hinderences while pushing a sound that is influenced by Detroit but not tapped by its legacy.
