Cubism with Tony Thomas, Saytek (Live)

  • CUBISM return to old haunt The Source for a special party with a rare and exclusive line up of the main protagonists associated with the label during the imprint’s lifetime. CUBISM was born from the friendship between Tony Thomas and Mark Gwinnett. The imprint has since evolved from Mark’s hometown of Maidstone and is now run in partnership between Saytek and Mark and has become regarded as one of the UKs quality underground house and techno labels. CUBISM parties first started appearing at what was River in Maidstone in 2008 before moving to The Source in 2010 where the imprint held an 18 month residency. Whilst the line up of residents has changed over the years, the positive influence of current CUBISM players Saytek, Mark Gwinnett, Mike Healey and Deano Loco has ensured that the party spirit and passion for igniting dance floors with a unique blend of twisted house and techno has continued. Since leaving The Source last Summer, CUBISM has become even more familiar on London’s East End circuit holding regular parties at Cargo and Rhythm Factory. Becoming a regular brand at arguably the UKs best club Fabric is not to be sniffed at either and is also testament to the quality blend of the house and techno you can expect to hear at CUBISM parties and on the label itself. In actual fact everyone on this line up has rocked Fabric. TONY THOMAS It’s amazing that legendary artist and co-founder of Cubism Tony Thomas heads the line up in the main room at The Source. Tony’s DJs appearances in recent years have been few and far in between. But make no mistake. He has been there and done that which is why his appearance here for the label he co-founded with Mark Gwinnett is so special. In his career he has performed in over 40 countries, and has produced countless releases and remixes on over 100 labels worldwide under at least 40 different aliases over a 20 year period. Parties and clubs Tony has played at around the world include PR Bulgaria, ZOUK clubs in KL and Singapore, Amnesia Ibiza, Dancevalley NL, Extrema NL, Chemistry NL, The End London, Fabric London, Turnmills London, Fabric Madrid, Shine Belfast, Rex Club Paris, Sullivan Room New York, Space Miami and many other prime global venues. With a brand new artist album forthcoming on CUBISM (the first since his seminal 21st Century Dub album released on Soma Records at the end of the last century), you can expect to hear a lot more about Tony Thomas again. SAYTEK Joining Tony headlining the main room is label partner Saytek. His live show is constantly evolving as his studio work throws up new tracks almost on a daily basis. With releases finding their way onto imprints such as Wiggle, Lucid Flow, Bedrock, Soma, Monique Music and many more tastemaker labels his rise and rise is set to continue this year. He is currently working towards his follow up to last years critically acclaimed Live On Cubism album which was debuted on the terrace at Space, Ibiza last summer. Expect to hear plenty of new material from the forthcoming album as he warms up for a plethora of high profile shows this summer. LOCO In the courtyard it is only fitting LOCO take over proceedings. CUBISM resident Deano Loco has always loved the courtyard at The Source. To be fair who doesn’t enjoy playing The Source courtyard? But CUBISM gave birth to his Loco night there due to the fact Deano always requested to play out there during the time CUBISM held a residency at the venue. And since then Deano has carried on throwing wild LOCO nights at the venue and has even followed in CUBISM's footsteps taking LOCO to Cargo in London late last year. Guests for LOCO on the night are the excellent Claire Ripley and Richard Belsom. Richard and Claire were part of the inspiration for CUBISM back in 2007, working alongside Mark and Tony before moving on to set up their own successful imprint Phobic Records. Since then they have both become hugely respected artists in their own right. Claire has appeared at venues across the UK and Europe which include Berlin’s Panorama Bar, Wiggle at Paramount and Fabric in the UK and enjoyed releases on massive imprints like Dessous, VIVa, Highgrade Records, MurMur and Wiggle among others. Richard’s DJing career is equally impressive. In recent years Richard has morphed into Zeitgeist and his productions can be found on tastemaker labels as diverse as ALiVe, Highgrade, Liebe Detail and many more. The pairs recent collaboration ‘Come To The Disco’ also found it’s way onto Steve Lawler’s VIVa Warriors album last summer. So there it is. The quality of the music is assured and you can expect to hear a veritable cornucopia of house and techno goodness across the board on the night for this special party.
