Artifact 001 Latency Recordings Showcase with Joey Anderson

  • ARTIFACT 001 LATENCY RECORDINGS SHOWCASE Artifact is a collaboration between likeminded artists across many disciplines. We are proud to have the Parisian label Latency Recordings in Brooklyn for a celebration of Joey Anderson's From One Mind To The Other EP.  Artifact and Latency are combining to bring an evening of mixed media and very, very deep sounds. https://soundcloud.com/latency-recordings Joey Anderson (Inimeg/Latency/Deconstruct) https://soundcloud.com/joey-anderson If you’ve been dancing to house music in the New York City and New Jersey area over the last few years, you’ve surely heard this man’s music — let alone already see him throw down on the decks. Considered part of the New York House revival that UQ has partially spearheaded, the New Jersey based producer/DJ first start releasing on DJ Qu’s Strength Music label in 2008. Joey has since released music on his own imprint, Inimeg Recordings, as well as Levon Vincent and Anthony Parasole’s esteemed Deconstruct Music label and some brilliant new European labels. His performances range from local gigs to prized appearances at international festivals like Freerotation in the UK. Both Artifact and Latency hold this artist in high regard and consider his recent EP for Latency more than a good enough reason to come together and throw a party. Suleiman & Sidney (Latency) https://soundcloud.com/latency-recordings Suleiman and Sidney are part of a new generation in the Parisian underground scene. While studying Art in Paris, they've created a new record label in order to shape their universe via music alongside the mediums of photography, video and design. Latency aims to be a place for experiments that enables artists to move freely through various fields of creativity. Taimur Agha (BLK Market) https://soundcloud.com/taimur-agha We pick up the tale of Taimur in '99 when the Pakistani born youth set sail from his childhood home of Abu Dhabi bound for foreign shores. He arrived in NYC as an innocent lad, but soon came upon the infamously hedonistic club Twilo and, well, you can figure the rest out for yourselves. Taimur also bought turntables during this time, started to play out, then began throwing parties, started receiving formative mentoring from UK veteran Craig Richards, consequently got a job in Brooklyn's halcyon record shop, and became host of an internet radio show. After 1001 nights of music, epic struggles and heroic dedication, Taimur is finally exploding on the scene and everyone's consciousness as a true force to be reckoned with, or at least a key player who has made an indelible mark on NYC's Techno scene; which, in the city that never sleeps, is certainly something.  As co-resident of the Blk|Market parties, which he launched in 2006 with partner Fahad Haider, Taimur has programmed over two hundred events. He has booked and played alongside the world's best DJs inclusing Sven Vath, Laurent Garnier, Tyrant, DJ Koze, Scuba vs. Scb, Marco Carola, Ben Klock, and many more. What's even more impressive is the list of talent Blk|market has debuted in NYC. Those names include Cassy, Margaret Dygas, Art Department, Melon, Mountain People, Jamie Jones, Matt Tolfrey, MyMy, Reboot and Wighnomy Brothers. This all points to clear evidence that Taimur is more than your average promoter who calls himself a DJ; he is a talented man with a constant ear to the ground who isn't afraid to push boundaries. Jordan (Soul People Music) https://soundcloud.com/jordanpoling Jordan is a fresh new face in local dance music circles but is also one that is sure to get more attention very soon. Relocating from Midwest a few years ago, Jordan has applied his d'n'b-sharpened DJ skills to the modern breed of deep techno, house and bass music that's spearheaded NYC's underground electronic renaissance. The result is an impeccable mixing technique combined with excellent taste that's no doubt been informed by years of also working at Brooklyn's halcyon the shop. Outside of DJing, Jordan is also honing his unique production style, which has already manifested itself with a track for C.O.M.E. compilation on Fred P's label Soul People Music under the alias JD. INSTALLATION Sophie Hirsch www.sophiehirsch.com Sophie Hirsch gathers materials most readily and freely available to her – discarded plastics – and with the help of her hands, and assisted by power tools, she weaves, twists and braids them into large strings, ropes, and amorphous masses. This creates large-scale sculptures that profoundly alter the spaces in which they exist. These sculptures are sensual abstractions that encourage the viewer’s imagination, often forcing a conflict between the perceived material and the unexpected sensuous responses triggered by their surfaces. These forms of ordered chaos intrigue the viewers to relate to her sculptures on an emotional and intellectual level.
