  • ( ( ( ( (H O U S E P I T A L I T Y) ) ) ) ) continues on its mission to bring the best in real house music from the originators, with this exclusive set from one of Chicago's greatest, and a bonus backroom birthday set from one of SF's finest: BOO WILLIAMS (Strictly Jazz Unit, Relief Records | Chicago):: With opening sets by FIL LATORRE (Housepitality, Staple | SF):: LUROB (Om Records, Great Lakes Audio | San Francisco):: Groove Lounge: SAMMY D (PillowTalk, Wolf+Lamb, [KONTROL], | San Francisco):: **birthday set!** It's May. The weather is getting warmer, more skin is showing in the streets, and folks are getting itchy with the desire to make moves, to strap on those boogie shoes, and get down. We're here to help. On this Wednesday, we've booked yet another artist who's been influential in house music's history: Boo Williams. Boo Williams (born Willie Griffin) grew up in the early 80s club scene in Chicago. While still a teenager, he was exposed to the roots of Chicago house music, and though he began making house music as early as 1987, his tracks first hit wax in 1993 on the Djax label. Since then, he's released music on many of the foundation house labels, (Rush Hour, Nite Life Collective, Relief, etc.), and has been a mainstay for true house heads and DJs ever since. We're proud to bring him out to SF and provide an audience who appreciates real, solid, true, Chicago house music. Opening up, SF's Lurob. Lurob, aka Louis Roberto, is an accomplished producer and DJ, whose tracks have been played by deep house gods like Mark Farina on their studio-released mixes. With influences as diverse as hip hop, samba, house, and techno, expect a deep, eclectic warmup set. Following Lurob, our resident Fil Latorre will continue to up the ante. Fil's a true veteran in our midst, having first started DJing in the same year that Boo Williams first released a record. With regard to throwing parties, DJing, working a room, and creating classic sounds, Fil is a top choice. Fil is a DJ's DJ, influenced by many genres, and his sets often encompass sounds outside the spectrum of pure house and techno. Opening sets are a great way to experience Fil's expansive sound. Get here early. Don't say we didn't warn you. Finally, our friend and SF party starting co-conspirator, Sammy D, will be celebrating his birthday in the Groove Lounge with a very special birthday set. If you don't know Sammy (which is unlikely), he's been DJing and throwing parties in SF since time immemorial. As a resident at the city's famed [KONTROL] parties, he and the rest of the Kontrol crew brought just about every house and techno DJ of note to the famous EndUp nightclub, firmly putting his stamp on the history of underground music in this city. Eventually, with friends Ryan Williams and (Housepitality founder) Michael Tello, he began recording and touring as PillowTalk, gaining international success and notoriety, with funk and soul-inspired recordings, and a unique hybrid live-electronic live set. Sammy's reached big heights with electronic music, and we're very happy to host his birthday set back home, with the SF family in attendance. Let's do this right. Hugs and gentle birthday spanking are encouraged! ;) The details: FREE before 11pm with RSVP at www.housepitalitysf.com/rsvp otherwise $5 before 11pm, $10 after FREE champagne from 9pm-10pm $5 Jameson (with mention of Housepitality discount) Streaming LIVE at http://housepitalitylive.com/ Boo Williams A Chicago club regular in the early '80s when he was in his early teens, Boo Williams began recording house in 1987, though he didn't appear on vinyl until 1993, on Holland's Djax label. Williams is a main producer for Cajmere's Relief label, where he also records his own material. Boo Williams spent the first decade plus of his career putting together a hefty catalogue, releasing on classic US labels like Nite Life Collective, Rhythm Republic and Relief Records, the latter of which released the producer's first two LPs, including Home Town Chicago. http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/boowilliams Fil Latorre Fil Latorre is a San Francisco-based DJ, prodcuer and event promoter that has been djing since 1993. His skills as a dj have garnered him high praise and critical acclaim. Less than a year after buying his first record, he won the first annual Fever/Buzz Battle of the DJs in Batlimore, Maryland, sparking critics and contemporaries alike to refer to him as a natural. Fil soon became a staple at events all over the country and Canada, playing at raves and clubs alike for various promoters in the Americas including the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Colombia, South America. Among other residencies, in 1995, Fil co-founded the Dirty Crew with DJ’s David Javate and John-Michael. Together, the Dirty Crew coordinated one-off events featuring DJs such as Robbie Hardkiss, Scott Henry and Terry Mullan to name a few. The Dirty Crew moved on to establish their weekly party, Filtered at the Eighteenth Street Lounge’s now defunct, club Red. Filtered went on for almost 3 years and has been heralded as one of the best weekly underground club nights in DC’s history. After djing on the West Coast multiple times where Fil received his best response, In 1999, he packed all his studio gear and records and moved to San Francisco. 5 months later, Fil co-founded Staple, along with Michael ‘Inhuman’ Minnich, Tony Roam and Jeff Brillhart. Staple was a weekly Saturday night event that showcased national and international talent like Glenn Underground, Alton Miller, Boo Williams, Stacey Pullen, Dan Bell, Layo & Bushwacka!, Jori Hulkonnen, Common Factor, John Tejada, Jeno, JT Donaldson, Lance DeSardi, Mark Ambrose, Alexi Delano and many more. After a 55 week run, staple – the weekly – called it quits. That same year, Fil began working for a vinyl distribution company called tRC Distribution as their House/Techno buyer and reviewer. In 2001, Fil reunited with David Javate to throw the monthly party Staple:Refuge at San Francisco’s famous house music mecca, the EndUp. Refuge brought back many of the guests from the original staple, and more. Staple went on at the EndUp for a little over a year. Fil has been passionate about music all his life, from when he studied violin and piano during grade school through studying music theory at the University of Virginia and finally becoming an Audio Engineer. The next logical step being production, Fil has been working on original work for years, which he regularly plays in his dj sets. http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/fillatorre http://soundcloud.com/fillatorre Lurob Lurob (Luis Roberto) is a Producer and DJ based out of San Francisco, CA. From his early days as a resident at the famed house club "The Top", to his production collaborations with Dirtybird Justin Martin, all the way to his massive monthly [KONTROL] parties at the legendary EndUp, Sammy has had a firm hand in helping shape the music scene in the Bay Area for over a decade. Having today manned the decks for close to 17 years, it's Sammy's DJ sets that really separate him from most artists out there. He has that perfect balance of technicality, patience, and understanding of what to play at the right time. He can really read a crowd, which, coupled with his highly entertaining personality, has made for some of the most unforgettable and legendary sets San Francisco has had the joy of experiencing. Sammy has played with just about every major DJ in the world through his [KONTROL] and LoveLetters events, but the time has clearly come for him to step out from behind the decks and into the spotlight with his refreshing new productions with PillowTalk. Quite promisingly, their first production has already been signed to Seth Troxler and company's hot new label VisonQuest and a follow up LP’s on the upstart Life and Death, Wolf + Lamb and Kompakt. Stay tuned, and watch for big things in the near future, because we've clearly only cracked the surface of this one-of-a-kind talent. https://soundcloud.com/doylestien https://www.facebook.com/Pillowtalkforever Enjoy handcrafted cocktails by our very own groove lounge mixologist.
